I could be wrong, but aren't joint chiefs appointed by the president nonetheless?

It is unlikely that the constitution will be amended. Democrats still (and will always) hold roughly 50% of seats in the Congress. So any proposal to amendment will not pass. However, there is a possibility of coup if Trump does not want to step down.
Judging from the article, my suspicion is they are going to use the data to train AI, to eventually replace human workers. It is not to justify one's self to not be fired, it is to allow the AI to replace them.
That is what I noticed. Everything these days require app to get shopping vouchers, book tickets, go in to your local gym, pay in store (we are being weaned off from using cash) etc.
Invade America? Canada and Mexico will be happy to do it.
They must have watched Fallout TV series and thought "we should do that".
But even if no civilisation ending event happens and billionaires think they could take the helm, people will rise up first. Too many hungry stomachs will not tolerate such brazen wealth inequality and power grab. The only reason that there is hardly any popular revolt yet in America is because many people are still comfortable. Wait until they aren't anymore.
Surely the fact that he's 19 and a senior advisor in a state department is more damning than his lineage?
Well firstly, it is the media, they love to sensationalise so they came up with this attention grabbing headline.
And that Trump is very obviously friendly with Putin?
At first I thought both simply have the same ideological inclination, and the speculation that Putin has a kompromat on Trump is a meme. Now, I am increasingly becoming convinced on the latter. Not even Mussolini bent this low to Hitler.
'we need to be above that'. Where has that message come from?
From the same oligarchs who wants people to remain passive.
I have been thinking that the US military is probably the final stop on Trump because they have been somewhat more rational. Well, as expected, it will no longer be the case.
Oligarchs are not unified. Some companies are heavily disaffected like pharmaceuticals thanks to RFK. Tariffs will also hurt most businesses' bottomline. Trump's policies only benefit certain oligarchs (tech companies and Musk) so the other oligarchs who get pissed off will band together to support someone friendlier.
It is called "coping". At the back of their minds, they know they got it wrong but are too proud to admit it. So, they double down instead and engaging in sunk cost fallacy.
Some Lemmy users even go so far as say there is equivalent of Reichstag fire event in US. Trump is only in office for one month and I didn't see the Congress get burned, pinned the blame on an opposing group, and then made Trump demand for absolute power. Is Trump bad? Yes, but let's not exaggerate. There are still checks and balance working as intended (many courts are still blocking many of Trump's executive decisions after all). People need to relax and get a cool head first. Because decisions made on emotions will only blunder.
