RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Winter is the best! No need for air conditioning and the fact that we get to use sweaters and blankets all season. Plus the hot drinks are nice and warm you up.

[–] Zoboomafoo@slrpnk.net 2 points 22 hours ago

I'd like winter if it was a blanket of snow making everything pretty and white. But the last few years it's just been gray and brown with a day of snow before it melts.

I loved winter when it was actually snowing. Now I prefer spring I think.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Man, thinking about that makes me so depressed. Growing up we'd have the snow cover lasting for months on end during the winter, commonly several feet of snow too. These days we're lucky if the snow remains for a week before it thaws even at the height of December.

[–] Bo7a@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

It is amazing how circumstances will mould the things we want. Our yard has been covered by 5 feet of snow since December. All I want is to see some green...

[–] musicboy4@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

Here in Poland, we have significantly less snow than we used to, but I just enjoy the atmosphere of winter. I totally understand you.

[–] h3mlocke@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

Absolutely not.

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago

Nope. I love warmth and sunlight.

  • Summer is best.
  • Spring is good because it means awful cold, miserable, grey Winter is over.
  • Autumn is next and it's nice enough but tempered by the terrible knowledge that dull, gloomy, icy Winter is coming.
  • Winter is worst. Three fucking months of misery and dejection. Not even Christmas makes up for it.

I haaaatteeeee summer. Spring I've got a feeling of impending doom cos it's round the corner. Everything is too hot, too bright and too light. Fucking hate it

Wanna come hang out at mine? The curtains are half shut at all times during summer.

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

Yes. Fall is best but winter is definitely preferable to summer or spring for me.

I like sweaters and fluffy coats and scarves and gloves. I also hate allergies and sweating. Being sickly pale, I don't want to wear anything in public that shows legs or upper arms (see I care!!) so it's extra awful.

[–] dotslashme@infosec.pub 3 points 1 day ago

Nope, coldness and darkness makes me physically and mentally ill.

[–] AlolanYoda@mander.xyz 7 points 1 day ago

I'm a summer kind of person, but it's not like I hate winter or anything. There's just fierce competition.

[–] JVT038@feddit.nl 2 points 1 day ago

Honestly, I think winter, because while I can easily protect myself against the cold by wearing thick, warm clothes, I can't really protect myself agains the heat. Even if I walk around naked, it's still gonna be hit as fuck.

I love winter. Nothing beats the feeling of waking up on a freezing morning and putting on a good warm woolen jumper

[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I love winter! The parks are mostly empty and there's a lot less litter and obnoxious stuff going on. The kind of fishing i do lasts from November to April and I spend a lot of my time outside. Our house has a furnace but not central AC so it's more comfortable.

[–] Karl@programming.dev 5 points 1 day ago

I'm from India and where I live, summer gets unbearably hot. In my opinion there is nothing in summer to look forward to except mangoes. Winter is wayy better. In my place, it doesn't even get cold except in the early mornings. Once it's a proper day, you wouldn't even know it's winter. It's just a less hot summer.

[–] Demonmariner@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I like winter better. Things around here are often on fire during the summer.

I live in the southeast of the US. Winter is my favorite and summer is miserable. Even spring might as well be summer here. I miss the snow from my childhood in the northeast.

[–] DrainKikoLake@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

I like spring a lot, but I definitely prefer winter to summer. Hot weather does not agree with me!

Fall is my favorite here in the southeast US. Cooler weather, beautiful foliage on the trees, and much much less pollen than in Spring.

I live in the desert and love hiking, every season that I have clothes for is a perfect season, and I have clothes for every season, ergo every season is perfect.

Winter: brisk exhilerating winds chill your exposed skin, keeping you cool despite your insulating layers keeping your core warm and toasty.

Spring: It's somewhat muddy, bring good boots as the ground is less stable from snowmelt and monsoon. The birds and bugs are alive and singing, the cacti and sagebrush are green and vibrant. Also, it fuckin wimdy my dudes.

Summer: Bugs the size of hawks, wear repellant. The tunas are sprouting, don't pick them yet, they aren't good to eat. The sun is a deadly laser, wear white loose fitting garb, or moisture wicking high UPF fabric. Anything in between will leave you roasting to death.

Autumn: It's getting darker earlier, perfect for twilight hiking but bring protection, food sources dwindling means gutsy cougers. Dress with care, it will be uncomfortably hot while the sun is up but approaching twilight the temperature will rapidly fall, these temps won't kill you, but they're certainly uncomfortable.

I love the cold way more than the heat. But since it doesn't snow where I live, I tend to prefer spring and fall more than winter itself, just because winter has nothing but the cold while spring and fall have the visual vibes (flowers blooming in spring, leaves changing color in fall). And also aren't too cold so being in the sun actually feels nice and not like I am cooking.

[–] nevermind@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

I love the spring, seeing the trees and flowers starting to bloom.

I hate the snow and the dark of winter.

[–] SirBobboIV@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

Winter is easily my favorite. California heat makes me want to die

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

Winter’s depressive, summer’s too hot, the two other are fine

[–] Libb@jlai.lu 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I love all four seasons.

I prefer light, though. So, it's harder during winter to have that same stupid smile I have right now, while I'm writing this comment looking by the window at the bright blue sky that's been patiently waiting for me to step outside and enjoy a long walk in the city ;)

[–] vodkasolution@feddit.it 2 points 1 day ago

When I'll rule the world, we'll have to season: summer and not summer! Any temperature under 15Β°C will be banned, and sheeps will be used for milk only!

[–] RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, another above like, 23C is too hot for me.

Unfortunately I live in Australia and that's most days.

[–] musicboy4@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

Take care and stay strong.

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago

Autumn is my favourite I guess :3

In terms of just winter and summer both have pros and cons, namely summer is too hot, but there's fruit in the garden, and the opposite for winter

[–] lnxtx@feddit.nl 2 points 1 day ago

Okey, for me classic seasons no longer exist.
I have cold (no or little snow), hot (with heavy rain sometimes), and wet (but rain isn't guaranteed) sessons.

So, I like transition between cold and hot, which lasts for 1-2 months. It's windy (unfortunately), rarely rains.

[–] Squorlple@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I prefer winter because the cold numbs my chronic pain. The outside world is also a lot quieter. However, the icy and slower roads and the wet muck from the snow are a massive negative.

[–] musicboy4@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Very insightful observations. Thanks for the comment.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

No. It's cold all the time. It's dark most of the time I'm not stuck in an office. The scenery looks dead and barren. And even when we do get snow it's a dusting of the credit non packable kind and mostly melts by the next day so the kids can't even enjoy it.

[–] musicboy4@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

It’s wonderful to read all your opinions!
