Tbf, he's probably right that US manufacturing isn't coming back, even with current nonsense considered. Trump, as well as the four year cycle of the presidency (if, unlike me, you don't believe the republic is cooked) is too volatile to build a future on. Four years is a really short time to rearrange whole ass supply chains, especially with everyone depending on hyper fragile just-in-time supply chains. Plus, there's always the chance that Trump could wake up tomorrow, declare victory, declare tariffs woke, and move on to the next shit storm. It seems likely that for the next four years, companies will use this as a cover to raise prices on top of forwarding the costs of tariffs, and do nothing to actually rearrange supply chains. In fact, if anything, I would expect smuggling to explode in popularity, but I guess we'll see.

In a way he is correct - the manufacturing jobs we think of - good paying, good benefits, union-protected, etc - aren't coming back.
Does anyone believe that the MAGA Nazis are going to bring back the old manufacturing model? The entire reason they sent business overseas was to save money. Now that they've had a few decades of those fat profits, they want more. If they could only save on the expensive shipping costs, by manufacturing in America, but doing it the same way its done over there.
The new manufacturing model will be Asian-style sweatshops, no unions, low pay (less than minimum wage, if they can get away with it), teen labor, no workplace health/ safety/ environmental protections, mandated long hours, no overtime, no benefits, no sick pay, no paid vacations, no discrimination laws, corporate-friendly labor boards, high income taxes, etc.
We are already seeing a lot of serious discussion of new state laws that will do away with minimum wage, loosen child labor laws, bust unions, etc. They are already getting ready for American sweatshops, and NOBODY is talking about it.
Also, isn't most of it being automated, even in China?
Automation is the thing that needs more discussion as well. Suppose automation is nearly perfected. Does anyone think these demons will let some kind of post-scarcity economy flourish? I think what they'll opt for - and some of the broligarchs already "joke" about it now - is that they'll puzzle over what to do about all the "useless eaters".
I think automation that reduced the amount of work, combined with sane and moral policies could be a good thing. The way the radicalized right wing broligarchs want to run it - will be hell on Earth for anyone that doesn't already have massive amounts of capital.
GOPer, thy name is hypocrisy
He is a weasel, his core is whatever the next daddy wants... Same as Poilievre in Canada which is why he is tanking so bad in the polls
Imagine believing that politicians have actual beliefs.
Some do - Bernie, AOC, Crockett, Frost, etc. We need to support candidates who are inspired by those people and their ideals, otherwise we just get what the Sociopathic Oligarchs pay for.
But I thought we crashed the market in order to bring manufacturing back to the US? It must be hard to be a republican supporter. Every day there's a new meta you gotta follow like League of Legends.
Their lore makes 40k seem like a children's book.
Lol, Luetin starting a channel to dig through the US historical records would be nice sleep aid content.
I mean, JD Vance certainly helped me realise the weakness of flesh
The kinda shit you hear from super earth. Gotta master that double thonk to maintain the moral
He also said things about Trump that make me wonder why Trump thinks he'd be loyal.
Wdym? Vance is not loyal to Trump, he is loyal to Thiel from the Heritage Foundation / PayPal Mafia, and Trump only accepts his presence because he got no choice.
Trump is not a free man. He is owned, bought for campaign money. He knew it was prison or president, so he sold the government.
This has been the GOP ticket strat since before Trump. Bush wasn't masterminding war and invasion. Cheney was in coordination with the oligarchy back then.
The difference is who the billionaires behind the man are. These newly rich tech bros are obviously more aggressive in the abuse of citizens and dismantling of democracy than the old evil billionaires were, who had probably held their positions of power since the times of plantations and railroads.
When you already have more money than you or your descendants can ever spend, and you have multiple mansions, planes, and superyachts, you start coveting other things.
Now the new hobby among Sociopathic Oligarchs is collecting politicians like Pokemon cards, and certain ones are more valuable, like an elected high level politician. Of course, holding the leash of POTUS (Musk) is the most coveted possession of all, but holding the leash of the VP (Theil) is pretty good, too. Eventually, we'll see oligarchs assassinating rival politicians, so their personal pet can rise higher in rank, and thus elevate the leash-holder's status amongst his Sociopathic Oligarch peers.
It sounds like a Neal Stephenson novel, except it's real life.
This post contains more solid truth than I have seen on Reddit in years.
Hat do you mean? I’ve been seeing this everywhere on Reddit.
Isn't it obvious? Trump has the couch fucking tape.
Thiel dangled some sweet bribes behind the doors for him, through vance.
Some people are saying he's the secret child of the master of flip flopping, whose moral beliefs are as solid as water, and the biggest sniveling weasel in all of D.C., Lindsey Graham.
I'm a fan of this type of misinformation.
I don’t know who is going to invest in on-shore manufacturing during a recession. Building materials cost more, tooling will cost more, pay will be higher because of inflation, and customers are tightening their wallets.
AND, Trump is obstructing the few investment incentives that the Biden admin had put in place, because “Biden bad.”
And even if all that lined up perfectly for you, there’s nothing to stop it all from changing tomorrow because reasons.
a new memoir, what's it called; How I fucked a couch and you can too?
casting couch confessions.
Couch fucker
But what about maga hyper-protectionism!
It's the maga that circles it back around.
Can we get a supercut remix?
