Part of the problem is that there isn't a really good onboarding process that doesn't involve getting people to join smaller instances.
Based on dev comments, they seem happy with Lemmy staying small, so there isn't an organization pushing for an equal distribution of new members.
Well it is lemmy.world, so it makes sense that it should contain everyone in the world /j
It's one of the largest and one of the easiest to join. I'm certainly not going to suggest Pawb for 90% of people unless I know they are a furry, and I would never recommend .ml. SJW would be second, and I might suggest db0 if it doesn't make you fill out an essay to join (I haven't made an account there).
Ask Gemini to get a list of Lemmy instances, with user numbers, as well as weekly posts from the FediDB API and give a unique sequence of smileys per entry, and ultimately store it all in a JSON file.
Ask it then to create a slot machine UI that randomly selects an entry when the user pushes a button that looks like a lever, which if pressed will animate smileys rolling downwards in each slot until the slots align to the 3 smileys of the entry that has been chosen.
After the animation is complete you redirect the user to the platform directly.
Then someone will forget what instance they are on and avoid lemmy.
