Yeah, the day there's an airliner that has a single pilot is the day I stop flying ever again.

McDonald's tried replacing order-takers (don't know what they call them) with AI, and it couldn't even do that...

Plus, planes already have dozens of safety systems that warn real pilots of dangers, they just don't have enough control to take over flying the plane, which is good. If the lane keeping system on my car is any indication, computers are only as good as the environment sensors attached. When my car thinks I'm doing something wrong, like driving on a street with no curbs and shitily painted yellow lines, the steering wheel vibrates like Doug. Doug is my vibrator....

They are mostly. Kiosks now, McDonald's in many areas have permanently shuttled its franchises due to falling sales

He's not talking about the touchscreen kiosk things. He's talking about the drive-through AI order-takers. Which have pretty much been a disaster no matter where you go.

Lots of talk about replacing things with AI, but very little about who's accountable when things go wrong.

Edit: I'd feel much more comfortable with something with lower stakes, like fully automated high-speed rail networks.

very little about who's accountable when things go wrong.

That's one of AI's most important features!

Airlines have lot of automation, but it atill requires two pilots to make sure the flight completes safely, especially when there's failures or erroneous sensor data. One big bird can end your entire career.
