I have to admit, I'm pretty excited. The 100MP main camera is nice and all, but that 50MP telephoto lens is what I'm really excited about!

100MP main camera

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of hard drives suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced."

It's using quad bayer. Which basically means it's a 25MP sensor that can act as a faux 100MP sensor. When it does that, you get more detail, but more noise. Which means it will have really good low light performance for a drone at 25MP, and if you give up the noise reduction, you'll get more definition out of it than you would from a regular 25MP sensor. But the 100MP sensor mode won't come close to the clarity you'd get from a genuine 100MP mirrorless camera sensor

Which is to say, it will be revolutionary for drone photographers, but not that impressive if you're comparing it to dedicated photography gear

She will be super expensive with the tariff situation, and also

  • There will be be no Cine version of the Mavic 4 Pro. No ProRes.
  • The image sensors aren’t physically bigger than the previous DJI Mavic 3 With a ‘only’ a 28mm Hasselblad camera (4/3 CMOS), 70mm Medium Tele camera (1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor), and a 168 mm Tele camera (1/1.5-inch CMOS sensor).
  • DJI RC TRACK will not return with the DJI Mavic 4. BUT the tracking functions will be available on the DJI RC Pro 2 by using the new scroll wheel beneath the screen.
  • No Electronic ND-Filters available at launch date. They are in the webshops but not seen in the combo’s of testers and dealers. They are on the webshop lists though, so they will probably be available later in May.

In summary, massive price hike for a machine that doesn’t improve that much over previous gen. Gimmicks like a rotating vertical screen is just adding another moving part that can snap, crack or become unresponsive.

Will be the best time to pick up a Mavic Pro 3 Cine. Mature, loved product at hopefully a lower price point.
