Jesus wept. Someone should serve up some grape Kool-Aid for those fine people!

[–] sxan@midwest.social 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I hear there's a good recipe floating around from Jonestown.

They drank Flavor Aid at Jonestown. Kool Aid just got all the ~~bad?~~ ~~good?~~ PR because it was misidentified by investigators and witnesses in testimony.

Regional branding. This is the Q-Tip issue: it didn't matter which company makes the product, the term has fallen into common usage to refer to a generic thing, in this case, powdered flavored sugar that you reconstitute in water. Or the beverage of your choice.

That's an interesting fact that I didn't know, though.

[–] LilB0kChoy@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It’s not regional branding or genericide which is the term for what your talking about where a brand name becomes the generic usage for a product in place of the generic name (i.e. Kleenex instead of facial tissue, Velcro instead of hook and loop etc.)

Flavor Aid and Kool Aid are two distinctly branded products made by two different companies. When I have more time I’ll see if I can dig up the interesting write up I read about this from the Kool Aid company perspective at the time and post it in an edit.

No need; I believe you about them being different products. But Kool Aid is a generic term for powered sweet drink mix. People just say "Kool Aid" when they mean powdered sugar drink.

Edit: oh, and I can totally believe Kool Aid itself would be really concerned about it, but honestly I doubt most people have any thought up whether it was Kool Aid™ brand flavored drink, is all.

I couldn’t find it which is too bad because it was an interesting op/ed piece from what I remember by some exec who worked for Kraft at the time on the Kool Aid product and how they panicked and freaked out, especially since the day of the mass suicide it was Flavor-aid.

I also so some sources, when I was looking, that said Kool aid was present on the compound and had been used in earlier tests by Jones so that added to the confusion.

Interesting! I usually remember that Jonestown wasn't in the US, but events like that aren't really my bag, so anything I know about it I picked up incidentally. Now I know a couple more things; thanks!

Every single time I listen to these meetings as they all jerk off their Dear Leader I can't help but cringe. Like when he has a speech and they need to give a standing ovation every 15 seconds for saying literally anything. It's so forced and fake that you can clearly tell that some those on board are sick of the act. Half of them look dead on the inside when it's not their turn to speak and they are so over the top with addressing him it's obvious they are terrified of stepping out of line.

And if I had a chance to ask them anything I'd ask if the power and privilege they get by selling their soul really worth being so terrified that you can't even speak your own thoughts anymore? Is putting yourself in a state of perpetual self censorship for fear of committing a thought crime and to lose what makes you a human anymore really worth it?

hes taking lesson from the dear leader of NK, he required people clap at certain intervals. only matter of time he orders the first one to stop clapping being jailed or worst.

there was a scene in the mirror darkly, Enterprise, where archer told his officer to shoot whoever stops clapping.

The president was asked by a reporter on Wednesday if he had spoken with Xi Jinping, the Chinese president, about the tariffs that have sparked a potentially costly trade war between the countries, and have led to predictions of empty shelves before the end of the year as imports dry up.

Trump said he had not, and offered his own prediction as to how Christmas might look for American families.

“Somebody said, ‘Oh, the shelves are gonna be open.’ Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls,” he said.

“So maybe the two dolls will cost a couple bucks more than they would normally.”

Some real "let them eat cake"/"it's one banana, Michael" vibes. Like the average American family has been buying "30 dolls" for their kids for Christmas for years. And people thought Biden and Kamala were out of touch with the economy?

Red caps, brown shirts, all same-same.

All very brown noses.

This is great news, with an enormous silver lining.

At some point, we will have to take our nation back from the MAGA Nazis, and it will probably be extremely ugly, and probably very violent. The people in this room are the people who will be directing the defense of MAGA, and they clearly cowardly, craven, loyalist servants of HitlerPig. He will will be the person who will be directing the defense personally, and we are all extremely familiar with his virtuosic incompetence.

OTOH, these people replaced knowledgable, experienced, intelligent, and COMPETENT public servants, who took great pride in the directing the American goverment on behalf of the American people. These people had top security clearances, and know exactly how deep in Putin's pocket the MAGA Nazis are, even if we only know the surface details. They know better than anyone, how treasonous and corrupt HitlerPig is.

Since their removal, we have heard almost nothing from any of them. Are all those true patriotic American leaders just relaxing on chaise longes on their lanais, sipping drinks and watching the sunset before watching Wheel of Fortune, as the MAGA Nazis destroy the nation that these people took an oath to protect?

Or are they all in contact with each other, discussing strategies to take back the country, and secure the nuclear arsenal? That would explain the near universal silence from all of them.

If HitlerPig tries to declare Martial Law and suspend elections, I suspect we will start to see some real response from these people. If it comes down to a Civil War between our leaders and their leaders, my money is on our side.

Pathetic swine.

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago

That’s the gayest shit I’ve ever seen.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

This has a lot of "Saddam Hussein is raking power" vibes. People are terrified and can't clap hard enot dor their dear leader lest they get taken outside behind the shed.

I'm seriously waiting for a similar event, the way things are going there
