Donald Trump has toughened his rhetoric toward Russian President Vladimir Putin following months of diplomatic efforts by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, Politico reported on May 1, citing unnamed European government sources.

The coordinated effort, led by senior British and French officials, sought to persuade Trump to ease pressure on President Volodymyr Zelensky and focus more criticism on Putin, arguing that Moscow's actions were undermining Trump's credibility as a negotiator.

A former British ambassador, speaking anonymously, said London and Paris continually emphasized to Trump that Putin was "disrespecting him by consistently breaking the ceasefire he claimed to be implementing."

Yep, treat a mental child like a child.

Trump's opinions are always based on who he last talked to.

If he talks to Putin today, tomorrow's headline will be "Trump shifts stance to back Putin: claims he did nothing wrong"

Yeah, and I feel like we don't abuse this fact enough for good. Sure, if he talks to Putin today he'll flipflop, but right now it seems like Putin is foolishly scorning Trump. If members of the EU can just constantly talk with him, maybe they can try and stay the most recent person he's talked with.

Really blows my mind that there hasn't been any push from the left to just manipulate this idiot. Literally the most easily manipulatable president in U.S. history, but for some reason we've allowed right-wing grifters a monopoly on his dementia-addled rotten brain.

It's only possible to do this if tRump has some sort of respect for the person. He's so desperate to be part of the big league that he either falls over himself trying to butt into the spotlight with world leaders or capitulates to flattery from them. He doesn't see Democrats as anything but temporarily-alive opposition.

I just don't think it'll work out for Democrats the way it can work for world leaders.

[–] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Yeah exactly, because he's a easily manipulated idiot, all easily manipulated idiots agree with the people they most recently talked to.

That just means that those who care about humanity should never ever stop or ease the diplomatic pressure. Show him what it means to be an actual leader, not a despot.

This is how you manipulate a child.

Yes, but it's also actually true, that Putin repeatedly has shown zero respect for Trump.
But for some reason Trump is giving Putin a pass on everything?
But maybe someone is finally getting through to him?

[–] Vopyr@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He changes his mind five times a day and then says he doesn't remember what he said the day before. A laughingstock that makes everyone's life worse.

Agreed, I'll count my blessing day by day

What did they do, beat him with a clue-by-four until he understood the message?

Trump is starting to realize he maybe doesn't need Putin when he controls the US. Too bad he already irrevocably damaged it, but the rest of the world will breath a great sigh of relief as the most deadly military in the world is shrunk and humbled.

Uh oh! Here come the pee pee videos!

Won't matter a bit.

All the southern Baptist churches will start celebrating the new form of Baptism where the father pees on their daughters, in honor of their messiah come at last.

Lines up perfectly with all their widespread sex abuse that make the catholic church look like asexuals.

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago

Will matter because I will get to laugh at the orange doofus.

Disagree. I want to see the shocked Pikachu face as his supporters reality comes crumbling down and pam bondi gets buried under the rubble that used to be America. Even if there was an upheaval right now, so much damage has already been done there is no coming back to the "luster" we had. We "peaked" from the 40s to the late 60s and have been coasting on that reputation ever since. We cant coast anymore now that were trending down. Fuck me, none of this needed to happen.

Edit: I also do acknowledge that there's more than 0 Republicans who actually hold their values with importance

After Zelensky signs mineral deal*

Maybe he could actually reach peace if he started from a neutral, center position instead from a 100% Russian one.
