Who would have thought putting a alcoholic, sad tv personality, with no requisite skills in charge of the armed forces would lead to such catastrophic results?

Sir, a second jet has hit the ocean floor

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 19 points 2 weeks ago

One went overboard at the end if April and another went overboard Tuesday night (if you are living in America). This is the incident from earlier in the week, not a third F-18 falling overboard. Although another F-18 was shot down during a friendly fire incident back in December. So 3 F-18's have been lost in the past 6 months.

Having now read through the entirety of Afghanistan’s wartime aviation crash history, I can now say that 2 superhornets going down in a single year is an extreme anomaly.

Three, two fell off the carrier and a third was accidentally shot down by a US warship

Last time was during Bush on the same ship...

  1. 7 January 2008 – Two F/A-18 fighter jets operating from USS Harry S. Truman crashed during an Iraq-related mission in the Gulf. All three pilots were rescued.[180][181]

I wonder if they anti-DEIed away all the competent service members, leaving only brain-rotted skinheads running the place.

See, Biden never had any military jets fall into the sea. Who's the senile president now, mister orange poopoopants?

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Late December one of Truman’s super hornets got shot down by friendly fire, though.

America's doing a better job taking down its own planes than its enemies.

Have fun build new ones... Oh Shit no suppliers anymore.

America has reached a point...where I'm really worried about nuclear weapons. Especially with all the cutbacks and layoffs. .

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Don’t worry, the guys in charge of the stock pile were asked to comeback after they were fired. And they probably came back. Maybe.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Certainly they weren't mad or upset by that or anything.

As an European I hope we can capitalize on this, Russia is cut off from western suppliers and the US is cut off from... Probably everyone? Time to manufacture! Better not let the Chinese have the whole pie.

[–] IceFoxX@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

We don't have the machines for dark industry etc. Europe is struggling with far right too. Our politics not ready for the next stage (they fall Back) and we couldnt produce at low cost. So mh nope we are out. We should partnership with China and start changing in a friendly way and not like US did

Our "chance" at the moment lies in first becoming capable of defense. Especially in modern warfare with drones etc.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

dark industry

is that a music genre?

We have industries that make all sorts of stuff, what's more we have industries that make the machines for making stuff.

source: work in industrial machinery manufacturing

[–] IceFoxX@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Dark Factories. Well mostly autonom Factories with Lights off cause no Humans.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And why would that be the determining factor in industrial production?

It's mostly a gimmick.

Money is already unfairly distributed. As soon as this becomes widespread in many areas, the distribution of money will become even more unfair.

Ah yes, our corrupt politicians, who are easily influenced by lobbyists, only think of themselves except at election time.

The entire operation against the Houthis is a billion dollar Krasnov led cluster fuck.

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 4 points 2 weeks ago

Is there an explanation for how this keeps happening? As far as I know, this wasn't a regular thing up until a few weeks ago

[–] besselj@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Too early to know if some actions leading to these events were genuine mistakes or deliberate and subtle sabotage

[–] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I’ve seen speculation it was a mechanical failure of the arrester system.

How a sailor shortage is crippling ship maintenance at sea – Navy Times

Perhaps plain ol’ mismanagement of resources.

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 6 points 2 weeks ago

God forbid anyone whos ever smoked reefer be allowed in the military, but were happy to understaff to the point where losing two $70M jets is a write-off oopsie-daisy

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I don't think someone's going to nearly get themselves killed just to remove a plane from inventory.
