I think of this when Europeans on other threads shit on Americans by saying "come over here if you want that free speech back". That was never a thing in Europe, and certainly isn't now in the days of Palestinian genocide. Shit on Americans all you want, but let's be accurate with those turds shall we?

The weird thing is the Germans legitimately think that they're on the right side of history by arresting protestors, banning demonstrations, cancelling artists and supplying weapons to support a genocide.

I guess some things never change.

It’s frustrating to have to hear the German state media being unconditionally pro-Israel. And sad to try to have a reasonable conversation about this with acquaintances and co-workers. But what really triggers my cognitive dissonance is all those pro-Israel leftist-themed stickers spread everywhere.

Please do differentiate between us and our fucking government.

Germans on Lemmy seem to try their hardest to make it clear there is no difference.

Why aren't Germans protesting the government? Not about Palestine but about their assault on German citizens' free speech?

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 4 points 10 hours ago

So many things come to mind. There are protests. We're in transition right now, this is a brand new government. People are afraid that the alternative (!) is literal, outright Nazis and this is the lesser evil. We've been protesting shit for some months but right now I think everybody's tired. No, these are not "good reasons". I don't even know, man.

Yes, we are entirely homogenous over here and any decision ever made by our government represents 100% the popular opinion, similar to how it works in the states

Most Americans have a negative view of Israel according to the latest polls.

I don't see anything like that in Germany.

I know noone who is for Israel except a rich boy working for CDU. Which is in my opinion a Nazi Partition or very close to it.

Because you're not looking:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=meinungsumfrage+zu+israel&ia=web

And this increasing deterioration of public opinion is happening despite the fact that a responsibility for Israel is cemented into the german law and favorable opinions being actively promoted by the media and government.
