“Mom, can we go to Paris?”

“We have have Paris at home.”

Paris at home:

Add Google Streetview VR and you're golden. 😅

It’s beautiful. Thank goodness, otherwise I would have probably gotten Paris syndrome on my trip.

Paris syndrome is a sense of extreme disappointment exhibited by some individuals when visiting Paris, who feel that the city does not live up to their expectations.

[–] maz1@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Relatively confident this was taken in Chicago

[–] ZeffSyde@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Oh shit, you're right. Photo was probably taken from the Marz Brewing thing by the corner of Western and Armitage.

The intersection of Western/Armitage/Milwaukee is a pain in the dick for all. Pedestrians have to wait at three busy crosswalks to get to the train station. Drivers don't know what lane to be in or whether they need to take a soft or hard left to continue onto the street they want.

They did recently bump out the curbs at the crosswalk, which is nice for pedestrians, but the cagers were upset because it created a bottle neck.

"W Homer St" 😂😂😂

It looks like a crossing where gangs fight out territory disputes. Its aweful but I get the vibe, sometimes I like to go to weird/fucked up places, get myself a drink and a cigarette and just enjoy it. Like, not because of the vibe or scenery. It makes me feel like I go from 3rd person to 1st person view. Like "I really am alive this world is fucking weird look at this view is this even anything like civilization it feels like anything could happen wtf woah this is amazing"

Kind of like being alone in the woods for a while and you get a bit worn out with a whimsical and hardcore touch grass kinda vibe like "I am a human and I am in nature there is no technology I don't know where I am and I like it let's go over there". But than in a kind of weird outer city/industrial park area like this city and like what the fuck this is society this is humanity I don't know where I am but I enjoy this and I grab a beer and perceive life.

I especially like both these things overseas and in foreign counties

I once enjoyed a delicious Colombian meal at a street table in Seven Sisters, north London. Shortly after the food arrived two men got into an altercation on the street, both acting like complete arseholes. One of them then disappeared off for 5 minutes and returned with a claw hammer he’d bought from a nearby hardware shop. He attacked the man half-arsedly with the claw hammer for a while then wandered off, but not far. Then the police turned up, and did a terrible job of working out who hammer man was. It was very entertaining, and the man who was being attacked with the hammer was not really injured. Dinner and a show 🤌

I was once waiting for a bus around there. I had my headphones on full blast and was just enjoying the sunny day. Random bus drivers would stop, break out a sweat and frantically try to wave me to come on to the bus, but I waved them on because they weren't my bus.

Finally I got hungry and as I turned to grab my duffel bag, I saw two guys surrounded by a group of men, going at each other with a knife, one of them thrusting up to his face and the other holding his hand down. Police swarmed about a minute later. I got on the fucking next bus.

So weird to think of hanging on to your rage through the process of selecting a hammer and purchasing it. I think when I pulled out my credit card I'd be like "this is stupid - I should be buying a crowbar".

That's close to how it would be if you were in the Boulevard Périphérique

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago

See the thing is, this could be just about any road in any city in north america. We refuse to build real places, just lanes and parking lots

I'm in Valencienne right now, small city in north of France, just got here for a project, and boy people are on fire. Had no clue about the game before today, but I feel this was the best day to arrive in France haha. I watched the game from my Hotel, but I went out when the fireworks started. It's almost midnight and the streets are full of people.

Funny thing is my partner is literally from Paris (but we live in Montréal) and even her didn't really know about the game... I guess we're not sport people lol.

I think they're actually banning smoking in a lot of Paris soon.

Goshen Hole , Iowa is so scenic this time of year, I hope it doesn't get ruined by over tourism.

Replace the drink with a pint of Guinness, and change the McDonald's to a pub, and you've got Dublin.

Cafe terraces in Paris are pretty much legendary.

[–] Sibbo@sopuli.xyz 13 points 3 days ago

Paris looks very different after they have started pushing cars out of the city.

[–] A_Chilean_Cyborg@feddit.cl 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

a car will loose control and kill you at any moment if you stay there.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

I've seen this almost happen at a bus stop at a busy intersection on the shittiest stroad in town. Just barely missed the bus stop bench and took down the bus stop sign and a woman pulled the guy in front of her back a few inches just barely saving him from getting ripped out of the ground like the sign post.

[–] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 days ago

Needs more street parking

[–] m0darn@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I could be convinced that there is a part of Paris that is like that. It doesn't look like a part of Paris anyone would want to spend much time in though.

Whats scary is that 90% of my own city looks like that. I literally would not be able to say whether that was a picture of a different city or not if somebody showed it to me. The other 10% is some rundown buildings from the 1800s that weren't bulldozed because they were churches or sat next to them.
