Curious what kind of alarm/ringtone people are rocking. Gentle and subtle tunes or straight up horrible loud alarms?

Alarm is the hypnotoad sound. No ringtones for calls, just vibration.

[–] BLAMM@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

I use a 14400 baud handshake.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I was using the Dragonzord "flute" for a while but switched to the siren from Silent Hill. My partner hates both but if I need a wake-up alarm I need it to flood my body with panic adrenaline.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My parents looked for like six months to find me a Dragon Dagger. One day I was pulled out of school early and I thought I was in trouble. My mum brought me outside to her car, stood at the rear for a moment, then unlocked the trunk. I could hear harps playing and angels singing as it slowly revealed a new-in-lunch Dragon Dagger. It played three songs and had a slashing sound. I was the happiest girl in the world.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I didn't use its proper name because I didn't think people would know what I meant but I see now I was foolish.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was OBSESSED. That hunk was my favorite Power Ranger. My mum made me a Green Ranger costume complete with an EXTREMELY well-made chest shield gold thing for Halloween even before I got my Dragon Dagger. I hear he was a dick on set (the American one) so that makes me sad. But alas.

I still have my Dragon Dagger.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My uncle (very near my age) also had a Green Ranger costume, I think there was a lot of gold lame involved. We generally weren't allowed toy weapons though so I'm envious of yours.

The edges were all rubber! Child me gnawed the tip of it off, so it’s certainly not pristine anymore.

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

I use the great fairy fountain from old school Zelda (ocarina of time specifically) as my wake up alarm, as it’s very peaceful to wake to. But still nerdy. It went with Navi going “hey listen!” Every time I got a text ;)

Mostly I use my watch alarm tho, which is vibration that starts gentle and gets stronger, and that’s plenty.

If I get shocked awake I have a panic attack. I try to avoid that.

[–] Wahots@pawb.social 2 points 2 days ago

My alarm is just the default android one, but my text tone is the windows XP fatal error sound.

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Dude, we want to turn the alarm off not up!

[–] Soku@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

My alarm cannot be anything with a real melody or I will hum it for hours on. I use some default tune what's more of a trill, does the job. My text/email alert used to be popping the bottle cap sound, my current phone has some brrp noise close enough to a fart to make me giggle - I'm old but not mature.

As for ring tones, I used to purchase some for pocket change from the last page of the tv guide. All fun and games until all the old relatives started dropping like flies. It just doesn't feel right to get an invitation to another funeral preceded by the Scissors Sisters 'I don't feel like dancing' or Eamon's 'fuck you'. For a long time my ring tone was the old school land line ringing. From the moment I was able to choose the ring tone from my playlist it has been 'Heavy Cross' by Gossip. I feel it's suitable for all occurrences while being only mine.

This stock Nothing alarm tone , really like Nothing sounds so use them for everything !

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I made my own from scratch at one point. Perks of being a sound designer lol.

[–] Pat@feddit.nu 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Could you please share it?

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It was years ago and I don’t think I have it anymore. But I felt guilty I didn’t have anything to give, so I went ahead and put this together just now: https://files.catbox.moe/0smvcl.mp3

[–] Pat@feddit.nu 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's really good! Thanks! Might use it as my alarm, actually! :-)

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I find a lot of alarm defaults are way to stress inducing. An alarm just needs to be heard. Not give you a heart attack.

It’s funny how, back in the day, getting a new phone meant immediately going through all the ringtones to pick the one you liked best. Nowadays, most people - myself included - just leave it on the default. I honestly can’t remember the last time I changed a ringtone or message tone. I might have on my old Nokia N73, but not since. The alarm tone I do change, though - I don’t need to be screamed at first thing in the morning. Just the vibration alone is enough to wake me up.

That said, I’ve actually been considering changing the ringtones for both of my SIM cards. Apparently everyone here has a Samsung, and nobody seems to change their ringtone - so every time I’m at the hardware store and a phone rings, you get like seven builders all pulling out their phones at once. Since I don’t particularly enjoy talking on the phone, every time I hear my ringtone - even if it’s from someone else’s phone - it gives me this little PTSD flash.

Damn, thats not bad.

[–] bazzett@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I love and use the Unsolved Mysteries intro song for calls, and a generic one from my phone for alarms.

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
works every time.

[–] swizzlestick@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

After replacing most of my mid-high frequency hearing (starting from 1000Hz and nosediving thereafter) with tinnitus - no tone, just vibration. Rattling away in the cradle does the job.

On the bright side, I am rarely woken or kept awake by noise.

Birdsong. Sometimes I genuinely can’t tell if it’s real birds or I snoozed my alarm - this morning it was real birds.

[–] kindenough@kbin.earth 3 points 2 days ago

I sampled Beastie Boys - Get it Together. The break where Q-Tip says, "Phone is ringing...oh my god", and then a little part of chorus after that "get it together...see what's happening" looped.

Rooster alarm. Only thing that wakes me up without pissing me off.

[–] Squiddlioni@kbin.melroy.org 3 points 2 days ago

For a while I had Willem Dafoe's "Haaaark! Hark, Triton" speech from The Lighthouse as my wake-up alarm. After a couple glorious weeks of startling awake to the curses of a crazed lighthouse keeper, my partner used the marital veto and I changed it back to the default gentle jingle. Haven't messed with it since.

Piezo.
Wakes up quickly.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I used to have Buddha Bar - Solitude as my alarm, but after a month or so I found myself associating it with waking up and it lost its calming effect on my morning. I've since resorted back to whatever my phone defaults to for minimum damage to sounds I like.

[–] dan1101@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

A cuckoo bird that gradually increases in volume.

[–] zxqwas@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Ringtone is some random one on the phone that is not default. I used to have the default but changed it after confusing someone else's for mine.

[–] fujiwood@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I have my alarm set to Good Morning Jazz playlist via Spotify.

I prefer it over most other alarms since it's less abrupt.

I also have a smart lamp set to turn on at the same time. It slowly gets brighter at a set schedule.

The discord ringtone special remix

[–] credo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I’m just kinda stuck on whether there is an option to play a non-specific ringtone.

Android (Pixel 8) says the name of the alarm I have chosen is "Rad Morning."
