It's a free country .... if you can afford it

Fairly certain US Senators can afford it. Yet here we are.

Actually, members of congress have been outed many times as accepting small "legal" bribes. I recall back with the fight over net neutrality that some were selling out for mere thousands of dollars.

The "land of the free"? Whoever told you that is your enemy.

They call it the American dream, because you’d have to be asleep to believe it.

Now something must be done

About vengeance, a badge, and a gun

'Cause I'll rip the mic, rip the stage, rip the system

I was born to rage against 'em

Now action must be taken

We don't need the key, we'll break in

I'm a bit out of the loop with current affairs lately. Can someone provide me with some context?

California Senator (US, not State) barged into a press briefing being given by Kristi Noem (US Secretary of Homeland Security), without announcing, at first, who he was. Security, can't say who exactly, pushed him out of the room, threw him down and cuffed him.

One one hand, he caused a fuss on purpose. OTOH, we got a solid look at fascism in action.

EDIT: It appears I was very wrong. Padilla claims the FBI escorted him to the room. I hardly see that statement being a lie as this was in a federally secured building.
