Transfer Reliability Guide

In the most recent Arsecast, Andrew and Lewis Ambrose played a game where they picked a team of Arsenal players to lose. The restrictions were that the player couldn't be played too far out of position, and that they had to have at least 20 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions in the emirates era, and that the team be in a 4-3-3 shape.

It's worth listening to the episode. They didn't always pick the worst players, sometimes it was players who were just bad in a certain position, or surrounded by players who emphasized their faults.

You can see the two teams if you want to skip to the end.

Seems like a fun game, anybody want to post their designed-to-lose teams?

Maybe I'm remembering poorly, but didn't Almunia have a few brilliant games?

He was at Arsenal for 8 seasons and played over 100 games. He had a few great games, but he also made a lot of errors. Given that the restriction was the player had to have made at least 20 appearances for Arsenal, there aren't any truly awful goalkeepers, but Almunia was someone who never inspired confidence.

Why people chosing Koscielny over Squilaci, Mertesaker, Andre Santos, David Luiz. And where is Benter? He doesn’t have 20 appearances?!? :)

It would be insane to choose Koscielny as a bad player. With Mertesacker you could at least design a team around losing because the back line is slow, but he was also a very good defender, especially when paired with a faster, more aggressive partner like Koscielny.

And where is Benter?

A better question is who is Benter?
