https://modding-openmw.com/

This website makes it easy to install hundreds on mods onto OpenMW on Linux. I haven't had a single issue

Wow, was not expecting them to add support for the other Bethesda titles under OpenMW. No wonder this took 3 years! All aside, this is seriously impressive.

Are there any free games built on OpenMW, so you don't have to look for the files of Morrowind to play something with it? Any fanmade games?

There is a project called Example Suite, which is meant to be a CC0 template for building other games upon it.
But I am not aware of any other from-scratch games made for OpenMW. There are quite a few total conversions, but those all use some of Morrowind game files.

morrowind currently costs €6 on gog. i've seen it go even cheaper.

True, but what about fully (or mostly) FOSS games built on OpenMW?

Last I saw, there's only a simple asset demo that comes bundled with the engine to help serve as a base to build free content on. I haven't heard about any full free alternatives yet though.

One of their more recent blog posts does go into detail about some experimental work they're doing to introduce compatibility with Quake-engine resources though, so that's all cool.

I had been running openMW for a few weeks, but since the update a few days ago (via Arch package, and later retried with AUR) I get an error:

Missing OSG plugin: osgPlugins-3.6.5/osgdb_dae.so

Does anyone happen to know how to resolve this ?

I'm sorry, I read the forum link you sent but I don't know how to apply it to my problem; I cloned the Git repo but couldn't find a .so file there

Should I just remove the distro file and install openMW from Git ?

Oh hell yeah!
