It's like when a character says the name of the movie.

But don't worry. The "showers" will be gender segregated. Have to maintain decorum, amirite?

Israel just doing totally normal violations of the Geneva Conventions, every day. No big deal.

Also, TIL the Red Cross is technically supposed to be the enforcer of these conventions.

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

They have a copy of the list, they're going to do what they want until they lose a war.

[–] poVoq@slrpnk.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

Also, TIL the Red Cross is technically supposed to be the enforcer of these conventions.

Enforcing is the wrong term, as it is a humanitarian organisation. But the International Red Cross in partnership with its Palestinian Red Crescent counterpart is very much active in documenting these violations of the Geneva convention and working together with the ICC. Of course with the world being as it is right now the impact will likely not amount to much, but they are at least trying.

"Never again" for Jews, anyways. Now, brown people on the other hand....

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

Aren’t most Israelis also brown people?

[–] queueBenSis@sh.itjust.works 31 points 2 weeks ago

historically, probably. in modern times, it’s mostly people who have migrated from europe and the united states since the Nakba

[–] burgerpocalyse@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

I'm not historian but I thought israel was made for european jews. also I have read that israel imports white jews from russia and america in order to fill out their settlements

[–] Retreaux@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Shhh don't tell them that!

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Europe and Russia are in the majority, assuming that Russia counts as white.

Full list here sort by "country of origin": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_Jews

race isnt really a thing and it's fucking ridiculous, but if you brought a random Israel to the USA and asked a red hat if they were white, what the fuck you think they're gonna say? I bet the median response would be NO

[–] pinkapple@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago

Murican racialism is super dumb in this context. "White" doesn't mean literally white complexion and Jews along with Slavs, the Irish and southern Meds/North Africans have never been included in the "white race" colonialism project, they were all explicitly "inferior populations" to the point of extermination.

The entire region is full of both "white" and "brown" people in the same families so this Murican simplistic af idea that races are real and that they correspond to skin tone and they're all neatly divided geographically is scifi.

This is about western backed colonizers versus displaced native populations, not "races".

bruh, many Israelis are also "brown people" by ICE standards. you think my dark curl haired hummus eating neighbor with a thick middle eastern accent aspirating into his cell phone is gonna be called white by a trumper?

[–] fittedsyllabi@lemmy.world 31 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Just Jews being Nazis. History repeating and all that jazz.

[–] loomy@lemy.lol 7 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

arguablly the Jews in Germany in ww2 were not proactively murdering innocent women and children via terrorism before the war, so I think that's one difference.

but it doesn't make what Israel is doing now any less Nazi-like.

[–] fittedsyllabi@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Indeed. Good point.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But the gun nuts keep saying that if the Jews had been armed then the holocaust would never have happened!

[–] loomy@lemy.lol 2 points 2 weeks ago

except they were armed

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

There was a lot of armed resistance to the nazis and their genocide of not only Jewish people but other minority groups...

What you're saying would only be an excuse if Israel never took a genocidal action before the current "war" broke out.

Like, you're not looking at the beginning, just at one of the few times the victim got a punch in. Which just resulted in the victim getting beat harder, but who wouldn't fight back after their friends and family have been genocide victims for generations?

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Holy Hasbara batman how does this have upvotes.

[–] loomy@lemy.lol 0 points 2 weeks ago

lemmings just follow the mob ; thus the nickname

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The sad fact is that abused people frequently become abusers. It takes strength and courage to break the cycle.

[–] november@lemmy.vg 16 points 2 weeks ago

The leaders in Israel aren't Holocaust survivors. Israel treated Holocaust survivors like absolute shit until it realized it was bad PR.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

These psychopaths have called Jewish Holocaust Survivors "anti-semites" for criticizing Israel.

Besides, there is no such thing as a racial groupmind ("Jewish hive-mind") through which the actual trauma transmits.

Many Jews suffered in the Holocaust but many more did not, plus it's been 80 years, so very few Jews alive today have actual trauma from it.

The whole idea of racial trauma is just the Racists trying to leverage for their own personal benefit the suffering of others who share with them nothing but ethnicity, which is why Zionists and Israel have been so big on it: as Genocidal supremacists they're probably the worst, nastiest Racists around in the present day so of course they would claim their entire race is a victim on the backs of the suffering of somebody else to get support for their own actions no matter how malevolent.

(In fact supremacists always claim racial victimhood even without victims: the Nazis did it for the "Arian Race", the KKK does it for the "White Race" and so on)

[–] telllos@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Aren't the Gazan population already concentrated in Gaza?

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes but the Nazis want to colonize a part of the concentration camp for Lebensraum so they're going to concentrate the people in it in a smaller concentration camp

You condense people into a smaller and smaller space until they produce a black hole - of Calcutta, that is.

[–] FriendlyN3rd@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 weeks ago

do would think they be against the camps considering their history but ig racism is stronger

You can tell they really paid attention in history class but got the wrong message out of it.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago

I think israel has been supressing palestinians for a bit more than 640 days.

[–] xorollo@leminal.space 5 points 2 weeks ago

I read 'humiliation' camps at first.
