I’ve done that to my wife (and really myself).

I just love crashing into real stuff.

I used to crash into the Sears (now Willis) Tower and other tall buildings across the USA in FS99. It became a very not cool thing to do for a few years. No idea why…

[–] REDACTED@infosec.pub 1 points 5 days ago

I feel bad for laughing at this, but I remember feeling really bad about myself after crashing a plane in that large GTA:San Andreas tower and as a kid, I immediately started thinking the feds are now watching me.

[–] OddMinus1@sh.itjust.works 12 points 6 days ago

It feels like a good amount of effort. I appreciate that.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

Worst way to say "I know where you live."

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago

Do that with some specific politicians.

[–] answersplease77@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

did the pilot eject? not sure how that works in commercial airplanes

[–] DreamlandLividity@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

You can't eject from commercial jetliners. You can't even jump out of most of them.

There used to be some that had a backwards facing door with stairs you could jump out of. Famously, D. B. Cooper did that. But afterwards, most of these doors were secured so that they could not open during flight to prevent future hijackers from doing what D. B. Cooper did.

Well it’s a Boeing so not too surprising

It's fine, they are meant to bounce,

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago

remember the boeing shuttlecraft was haunted by mysterious noises.

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 70 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I once parked a Cessna in my parents’ cramped driveway and sent them the pic. Felt good.

That's great

Crashing would be more fun in MSFS if it had destructible environments and soft body physics.

[–] dalekcaan@feddit.nl 31 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Or at the very least comically broke into a million pieces like they used to in the old games. (I think I'm specifically thinking of 2000, but I don't remember for sure. When I try to look up MS Flight Sim 2000 crash, all I get is troubleshooting guides)

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

The only one I ever played with any kind of destruction was Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator.

[–] kn33@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

They should make another one of those

[–] JustARegularNerd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

MSFM 2000 was the one (and only one) that I've played, and unfortunately no, it just pauses the game right on impact.

[–] dalekcaan@feddit.nl 4 points 1 week ago

Hm, maybe it was 98? I forget which version I had as a kid, but it was one that had a flat image as the cockpit, definitely pre MSFS X.

Like Wreckfest, but with wings and maps.

Sounds like a laugh.

Like Wreckfest, but with wings and maps

Sounds like my bachelor party

BeamNG.drive

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago

That game exists, it's called Nuclear Option.

It doesn't use real world maps which is a shame, but I can see why they don't because you can literally nuke cities in it.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 33 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Some Indian scammer sent me a picture like this with no context and I was so confused, but I guess now it makes sense. Also it wasn't my house, I don't know where it was, but it was definitely not where I lived so I'm not sure what that was supposed to achieve.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's the thought that counts.

[–] Trainguyrom@reddthat.com 5 points 6 days ago

Now do the needful and delete your most important files from your computer

[–] REDACTED@infosec.pub 3 points 5 days ago

Probably used IP location info, which tends to be accurate up to the city or district.

[–] orca@orcas.enjoying.yachts 29 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I haven’t played a Microsoft Flight Simulator game in a really long time, so excuse me if this is a dumb question. Does the game use actual map data? Does it have entire countries?! That’s kind of wild and makes me want to check the new one out on GamePass.

I also want to crash into my own house.

[–] Michal@programming.dev 40 points 1 week ago (2 children)

FS2020 does. It uses bing maps satellite imagery, interprets the map and procrdurally generates buildings. It's impressive, but up close the buildings look generic and rarely accurate. Google Earth looks better.

However they do have hand made maps of big cities, these are very realistic.

People can use StreetComplete and other software to enhance existing data (e.g. building heights/floors) and overall improve the underlying OpenStreetMap data that it (in part) uses.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 1 week ago

My hometown which is tiny is accurately represented in Microsoft flight simulator, I have no idea who took the effort to do that.

The only reason I can think of is that due to some stupid local political reasons it has a major train station despite being a small town, so perhaps they just modelled everything with extensive public infrastructure.

[–] goldfndr@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Do they contribute? If they make money with the data, they should.

[–] goldfndr@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Good. As it should be.

[–] nevemsenki@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

Amateurs, I doubt there's a place I haven't crashed into yet

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If a bro cyberbullying you pulls up a picture of your home address in any context, that IS personal.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

Just send back a picture of his mum

[–] Matriks404@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wonder what's the psychological reason we fly planes into our houses in flight sim.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Same reason homing pigeons fly home

[–] Fortatech@gregtech.eu 10 points 1 week ago

Flight Gear flight simulator way better :)

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

More concerning is that they know my address.

[–] FlihpFlorp@piefed.zip 15 points 1 week ago

Yeah but you already knew your address so not really that impressive

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

That's what makes it so brilliant.

[–] SuzyQ@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

The key is to send it too then when they're not at home.

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago

For me it was always crashing into my own house in MS Flight Sim

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

New? I was doing that in the early 2000s

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 4 points 1 week ago

Jokes on you, I moved last year. You just murdered a family of five.

[–] Ghyste@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

I thought they nerfed crashes entirely with the new flight sim
