OK, I don't watch this guy's stuff all the time but he seems smart and he shines light on bullshit. This video is about a youtuber Cody "Whistlin' Diesel" allegedly day trading with some guy named Alex. As you can imagine, Alex is selling a scam.

FOREX is no joke and there is apparently an entire industry of people scamming financial newbies with prop accounts. That's terrifying. If you're thinking about your money and want to make some quick, please avoid this bullshit.

I'm really confused as to how this is news to anyone, but I guess I appreciate you getting the word out.

But yeah.... don't take financial advice from WhistlinDiesel... noted?

The golden rule of money making tips: if this was a successful way to make money, why are they selling it to you instead of just using it to make money?

The two most likely answers:

  1. They're making more money selling the idea than the idea generates
  2. (Far more likely) It's a scam

Why are they introducing competition to their scheme? Why did they waste time building a sales deck and presentation when they could have been making money? If selling you money making tips is more profitable, how much money is there to be made?

This was my turning point on scams ala ~~Robert kiasaki~~ Kiyosaki and Rich dad Poor dad paid conventions. If you're making so much money doing it, why the fuck are you creating competition for yourself!

That's why I've been an MMM devotee for years. He isn't trying to make money off of you. He's just trying to brainwash you into riding a bicycle.

Yes, a hundred times this. People are always inventing new bullshit to scam the people who are just coming up and haven't been taught lessons like this. Making a $500 mistake is really nothing in the grand scheme but when I watched this video I realized people could be on the hook for $10k or $150k or even $300k if their credit was good enough.

I don't really know who needs to hear this, but don't get your financial advice from random YouTubers unless you're happy to lose every penny involved with actioning that advice.

Right? Someone is listening to these assholes though, or they wouldn't be doing it.

Whistlin’ Diesel is friends with, and defends, the Paul brothers. You don’t need to know any more than that to not trust his opinions (whether they’re ill-intentioned or not).

[–] tacosplease@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Dude argued with his own fans to defend those guys. He really is as stupid as he seems.

[–] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

When he went to Europe for a indestructible Toyota truck video he was wearing a MAGA hat.

Doesn’t surprise me lol. One look at the channel and you could make an educated guess on where he lands on the political spectrum, but I try not to judge based solely on stereotypes. I only watched a handful of videos and after he defended his friendship with one of the Paul brothers (I forget which one) is when I decided there were better YT’ers to support with my views. Thank you for confirming my suspicions though.

If we're looking for hosts who just have their crew do builds for them and they're just the personality I'm going Westin Chaplin for a nicer redneck.

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah, he's a moron but he knows (or used to know) how to massage diesel trucks to make them go VROOOOOOM

I watched that dude's channel back in the day but then he went woke or something so I don't like him anymore. Just kidding, I quit watching when the content went away from GearTube and into Sponsored by Monster Energy.

Forex is legit service, but a sucker is born every minute.

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Well, forex isn't a service it's a set of markets. It just means foreign exchange.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

I meant like the forex website services, whatever they offer. But listening to Craig and buying his stuff may need to be researched lol.
