There is one where a guy riding a horse slides under a truck as if it's a motorcycle.

RRR is the greatest action movie of this generation

[–] state_electrician@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 4 days ago (2 children)

RRR was the first Indian movie I watched and I loved it. I watched other Indian movies after that, but they pale in comparison.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Monkey Man, directed by Dev Patel, was solid. More of a John Wick movie than RRR's Rambo: The Musical. But the acting, the cinematography, and the screenplay were all on par with a top tier American film.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 2 points 4 days ago

That’s because it is one though.

I randomly watched that movie with 0 expectations and holy shit. It was cinema 11/10.

The bheem song in the whipping scene was great

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No kidding! That movie just delivers for 3 hours straight and has one of the best twists I didn’t see coming at all. One of my favorites parts of the massive crowd fight with the cop.

Honestly, to an English speaking North American with typical deficient exposure to the complexities of a lot of other cultures and languages, a lot of the English-language translations for shows and movies from other parts of the world end up coming across that way. Mostly, I just assume it's something lost in translation and totally not a big deal, of course.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Don't fuck the fuck. If you fuck the fuck fuck fucks you. I'm not the fuck, I'm the shit!

[–] Johanno@feddit.org 2 points 4 days ago

Fucking awesome!

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Yeah, this happens to everyone. Most people would quite literally translate how they would say something in their language to another. But in doing so, they still retain the grammar, character, syntax and words of their mother language to the foreign language they are trying to speak, which messes things up. I can kinda see it on people of foreign backgrounds when they speak English. It is amusing that I have an African colleague who says "I see you" to mean "hi". In English, saying "I see you" sounds like you are watching and suspicious of someone, but in some parts of Africa, it means you recognise the person as an individual.

Oh simply the committee that nominates movies for Oscar is ass in India(as in corrupt) so you'll never even hear about good Indian movies through Oscars You should look at tumbbad, jigarthanda double x

[–] Mika@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 days ago

Or simply the Oscar is an advertisement company for their friends products, and not some competition.

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 16 points 4 days ago (2 children)

In their defense, action movies are all pretty over the top.

Die Hard anyone?

[–] lime@feddit.nu 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)
[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There's 30 years between them. When Die Hard came out it had a building explode and a man used a hose like a bungee cord to escape. And he lived. Yeah, it was the same level of over the top - we just got used to it.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

idk man, look at some bollywood films from the 80s and 90s. they have an entirely different sense of physics.

The film must be shown at least three times on each day of its qualifying run, with at least one of the daily showings starting between 6 pm and 10 pm local time.

later

The Best International Feature Film award does not require a U.S. release. It requires the film to be submitted as its country's official selection.

Actual rules are linked by the Wikipedia page a PDF.

[–] Univ3rse@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Is that what was actually said or a poor translation?

[–] 7ai@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] Univ3rse@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 3 days ago

Oh wow. Now I need to look up a translation for what was said before that to maybe put it in context to at least see what they were attempting to convey.
