You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

There is no Spider-Man but Spider-Man, whose truth was revealed to us by the prophet Stan Lee, blessings and peace be upon him

Oh god, are we doing Reddit Atheism on Lemmy now? This sucks shit

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 8 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

What's more annoying than a Reddit atheist? Paying taxes to support your shit church

[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 8 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

I'm not Christian, and don't go to church. I agree that churches shouldn't get tax breaks.

I still think memes like this are deeply, achingly, cringe

Allah and God are the same god...

[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

You say that as though the type of person who makes posts like this respects religious people enough to investigate and find that out.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

Why would knowing that matter when it's all bullshit anyways. The Easter Bunny and Santa are actually the same person too!

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 15 hours ago

The extended universe lore is just quite different between the fanbases

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That too, I'm just pointing out the redundant lore references

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Kinda absurd how many Americans expect arabic-speaking Christians to call God "God."

[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 1 points 15 hours ago

It's because they're racist ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Do not dare to draw our prophet Spiderman! You will feel the rage of Spiderman then!

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Bring me picture of Allah!

…oh nooooo

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

thats not allah though, thats muhammad. No muslim believes he is Allah like christians believe Jesua being god himself

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

You’re right, the details were slightly off, but it still doesn’t change the fact that murdering someone over a cartoon because you think a book said you had to is absolutely unhinged behavior.

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

I don't think any muslim believes the quran says not to depict muhammad. The idea is that since christians worshipped the messenger over the actual god man himself they were like "we will not worship false idols like the christians" etc. I don't know any muslim that says they shouldn't depict muhammad because the quran says it.

I only post this stuff to combat ignorance on part of people who don't learn islam. I'm not a muslim, but I at least try to understand it. It's very hard to argue against something you don't understand.

This argument fails to account for how I feel. Reading Spiderman makes me want to be a better person.

  1. The Devil infamously appears in Spider-Man.

  2. The Devil is (mostly) canon in the Christian multiverse.

  3. I met Spider-Man at my 8 year old birthday party.

Conclusion: All 3 are real, or I'm not real. Advances in ontology necessary to say with certainty.

The spiderman scriptures have pictures, so I'm going with that one

[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 2 points 15 hours ago

Does this mean Spiderman counts as an illuminated manuscript?
