This seems like a positive thing, but I sure wish I would see more casual ebike riders wearing helmets...

In the Netherlands 96% of the people don't use helmets while their injuries are very low. It's about the infrastructure mentality. Like you wouldn't take a helmet for walking? It's the same for them.

Only really works because the infrastructure is so safe. In pretty much any other country I’d think twice before going without a helmet until proper biking infrastructure is built.

Yes, I agree, that's exactly why I think we should focus more on building safe infrastructure, because if it isn't safe enough to ride without a helmet it never will become used as mass method of transportation.

Also you can just lose focus, make a mistake, and drive into something. People do so all the time in cars, why wouldn't they on bikes? Bike injuries can be very serious if you are unlucky and hit your head wrong. Wear helmets people!

Riding a bike is so much more interactive than driving. Just the act of pedaling is more interaction than a car.

As for injuries, you can have the same injury walking and falling off a curb, or falling down some stairs. You head is fragile, never leave home without your helmet...

Sure but I don't walk at 30kph either.

99% of cycling head injuries are caused by cars. You helmet promoters can't see the forest for the trees.

Where I live in Canada, anyone riding on an ebike weather the "driver" or a passenger they must wear a helmet.

[–] DrunkEngineer@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Many parts of Canada have all-ages requirement for helmets even for regular bikes. This is one main reason why Canada has atrocious mode-share for cycling.

Everyone SHOULD wear a helmet.

No one should HAVE to wear a helmet.

This is true. Alberta is the one tho. Anyone over 18 can ride a standard bike without a helmet. So dumb. Everyone should be wearing a helmet.

Fewer ebikes on sidewalks would also be nice

Love my eBike. Turbo Levo’s are the bee’s knees. Just wish I had a throttle button. But I will on my next one.
