I took a leadership role in my kids scout troop. Can’t do shit about this situation, but hopefully I can help these 70 kids get a good start on life and prepare for what’s to come.

doing everything cept be mean to cops cause black
Yeah, it's all good advice except the part about getting yourself shot and having crack sprinkled on your corpse.
Boo them from a good safe distance when you have people with you. Don't confront cops.
I personally like to have the tiniest, possibly imperceptible understanding that all they do is waste time. Just a little bit of pity in my voice when I talk to them in person. Pretend you’re talking to someone who doesn’t deserve respect.
I got pulled over for expired registration. “Oh hi there, how can I help you? Gosh sorry, I just didn’t realize. Sure I’ll wait.”
How much do you get paid to do this? It’s way too much. Look at you thinking you’re important with your uniform.
Pretend you're taling to someone who doesn't deserve respect.
Pretend?
- Always be willing to lend a hand
- Give (and receive) more hugs
- Be mean to cops
- Talk more with your neighbors
- Be extra mean to cops
- Don't talk to cops.
- Don't hug cops.
- Don't lend a hand to cops.
- Talk more with your neighbors
Unless your neighbors are part of the problem.
Get organized! Its the only one that matters!
Quitting socmed is good because its fucking up your brain probably, and it will likely change you for the better. Internal change and development is revolutionary, it is actually an act of resistance.
Consumerist action only matters when part of a larger campaign, so get with BDS or maybe veganism but don't get sucked into thinking like vegans, they're too individualistic and hostile to solidarity.
Support real artist, good I love it, but see if you can get artists working on a project as part of organizing. Every group needs artists so if you know some, get them to make some revolutionary art.
Being mean to cops doesn't really matter but it's better than being nice to them, and I've seen people be like "oh I actually hate cops but we still have to work with them on this" which is so fucked up and wrongheaded I will literally attack people like this if they don't respond to education. So fuck cops and keep them out of organizing and mobilizing spaces.
But please get organized! The fact it isn't on here is suspicious.

- organize internationally

Sincerely: use the Internet less. It's better for you anyway, but in general we're seeing a real crackdown from corporations and governments. In response if we all just stop using it so much because it's becoming unpleasant anyway they won't know what to do. And maybe a happy side effect if everyone starts to kick the Internet habit is the population becoming generally more sane
In other words, touch grass?
The Internet is a big place with plenty of value in it still. If all you do is scroll the big 5 brainrot sites, then yeah you're probably not going to find a ton of enrichment, but that doesn't mean 'Internet bad'. That's almost like saying 'food is bad for you'
If you really want to make a difference, contribute to the spaces on the Internet that are good rather than avoiding it all together
I hear what you're saying but I think I would probably never talk to anyone without the internet and be very less sane
I didn't say not to use it at all, I said to use it less. If you genuinely are unable to connect to other people without the Internet then I am truly sorry about your situation, but if it's at all remotely possible that you could connect with people offline - even if you first meet them online - then I really urge you to figure out a way to do it because that's how we break the power of these ghouls, we stop using "their" stuff for our needs
Yeah fair. I used to go to more stuff but a lot of it is the thought of getting covid freaks me out and I don't live somewhere with a lot of meetup groups around anymore. Honestly I've always seen it as the other way, where irl spaces (especially ones that take money) are run by hostile or incompatible forces, and the internet as something with more exceptions to that, even now that it's become worse.
It's certainly a tricky one, I feel like a lot of us have some trauma still from covid anyway, and the world is just acting like it has gone away. At least in the real world there are spaces outside that can't be controlled that easily. I feel you on the meetup groups too, I'd love some local queer friends but I don't know where the local queer people are meeting up. But the Internet is becoming the ultimate hostile space very quickly and sadly we need to either accept it or try and pull away now before it's too late
The irony being the internet is where the left retreated when the real world became too hostile

If the time marker didn't work in the link, skip to 42:10
And then the right followed us and we ceded that to them too. We have a long, horrible uphill struggle before us
The truth nobody wants to hear. We need an incorruptible successor to the internet, and until then I'll be spending as much time offline as I can
Show up armed
I have a seedbox and would totally be up to seed Wikipedia. Is there an easy way to automate that always the newest release gets seeded? I don't want to do it manually every day.
Honestly, I wouldn't want it updated constantly. AI and red hats are about to fuck it right to fuck town.
that's a step beyond my of-the-dome abilities but if you look on the backup site, lots of partners keep "the last 5 good backups" and i'm sure there's a way to automate what you're describing
Main backups are only done a few times a year. I just grabbed this years and last years for now. I would suggest multiple versions just so you can potentially cross reference and see what changed between updates. For example, what was removed can be just as informative as what was added.
Disclaimer: being mean to cops can get you killed. Even if you're a white male
Okay. And? Be mean to cops anyway. Don't let them scare you into submission. That's how fascism wins.
I said "disclaimer" not "don't do it" :)

I know no one is going to like this, but sincere question- how does being mean to cops make any of our issues better?
Like interfering with their ability to get things done, recording their interactions with the public, etc seem productive. But empty antagonism seems like a good way to inspire greater antipathy for the public that makes issues worse... At least with being mean to ice (who, to be fair, are also cops) it seems more likely the public disdain for them is a large enough amount of the population to make them feel ashamed of themselves, helped along by that fact their actions are more clearly abhorrent at an individual scale, making it easer for those voices to impact them.
But I think with regular cops it's too easy for them to still think of themselves as good guys doing an important service, and I don't see "being mean to them" as likely to actually have an positive impact on the issues we're facing
I would be open to thoughts on how it would make things better though! Just because I don't how it would help doesn't mean it necessarily wouldn't, but intuitively it seems to me like it'd be counter productive in most cases
By removing the cultural respect they have. If they are routinely seen as the bad guys, the attraction to the profession is diminished. We begin to make a career in law enforcement similar to used car salesman and telemarketers. People will routinely disrespect them. Power hungry morons will think twice before going into those jobs.
I think this is a fair argument. I'm not sure if I see "being mean to them" as necessarily playing out this way, or being the best way to achieve that end (one can have no respect without being insulted/verbally attacked. Creating a stronger "us vs them" has explicit risks to our communities), but I can see the point you're making
I appreciate the sincere answer :) hope you have a lovely day!
You're welcome. Back at ya. Be excellent.
This is 100% why for me.
As someone who has been verbally abused and called names by an aggressive cop while his partner had his hand on his gun… most people in the U.S. think all cops are good, and anyone who was on their bad side did something to deserve it. I flipped off a taxi, for the record. The cop thought I flipped him off, pulled me over, and screamed at me. I was 19.
Even my own family thinks I did it. “That’s why you don’t flip off cops.” Cool…
People also think cops deserve to be shitty because of “what they put up with,” while we have to be on our best behavior or risk death.
What does one bad apple do? It spoils the whole bunch. Police are a spoiled bunch. Fuck cops forever.
Specifically obstructing law enforcement (especially ICE) or wasting their time stops them from carrying out fascist orders.
The single most important thing we can all do is to fully marginalize and ostracize the republican traitor filth.
Always be mean to cops.
If you're dating someone and they're not mean to cops, dump their ass.
I agree in theory, but honestly I'd rather just fucking avoid them.
