It's pretty crazy how much conservatives have been taking over reddit lately. They regularly have posts hitting the front page unironically now. Reddit has become a total shit hole

Probably just upset at the inaccuracy of saying half mast and not half staff. It's only half mast if it's on a ship.

The small spar on the bow of a ship is slso a staff, specifically the Jack Staff (or jackstaff). This also means the the U.K.'s flag should only be refered to as the Union Jack (after which the spar was named) when flown on a ship, and the Union Flag elsewhere.
