The global shift rightward re: censorship and privacy really stresses me out

Netanyahu is gleeful about the corrupt eu corporate politicians.

I don't think the danish politicians are corrupt. They're just dumbfucks.

Corrupted by an authoritarian mindset at least. Germanics wanting to give more power to the state over their citizens it is unheard of. /s

I'm guessing a little A and a little B.

Ok, a whole lot of B.

Surprised to see the Spanish government in favour of this. Anybody know their reasons?

[–] JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nl 6 points 3 weeks ago

They have spearheaded many of the past chat control pushes IIRC.

They want to put down Catalan separatist movements. It is to use against their own citizens.

It sounds good on the surface.

My biggest issue with this :

  1. are they going to make cryptography illegal? If not then they are not going to get anywhere. Will they make FOSS illegal? Device ownership? Math?

  2. Who is going to do the surveillance? The Yankees? Russians? Chinese? It is a free economy so basically a gigantic security hole.

If someone actually knows the answers please help me understand how these issues are resolved.

Nothing is good about it on surface.

Imagine if the politicians had a list of all pedophiles. Sounds good in theory.

In reality they have the Epstein list, and protect everyone on the list.

On the surface it sounds good - > reality is that it is a really bad idea.

The reality is that it's not to protect children at all. It's to keep an eye on any potential threat to their power.
