Dutchie here - the violence wasn't instigated by the right-wing protesters but by football hooligans who tend to have similar views on migration. I think it is important to make the distinction especially since English language reporting on this is much more alarmist imo.

Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
- Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.
(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org
Are right-wing football hooligans not right-wing?
They sure are, and they didnt went there as football hooligans. Point is there was an organised effort to instigated violence by a group that is different fromt the group that organised a peaceful protest - even though both groups have similar political views.
What the English speaking news will tell you about the trouble we have here with "right wing protesters" would lead you to the same conclusions. Like they're trying to normalise the opinion of fucking scum
What they won't usually point out: Steven Yaxley-Lennon leads groups of 90s hooligan "firms" (whose sole reason for existence is football violence) around lLondon trying to pick fights with the police under the guise of a "right wing protest".
Yaxley-Lennon is better known by his carefully crafted persona "Tommy Robinson". Even the name is chosen to evoke a certain patriotic feeling in... "Certain generations" (Pensioners, mostly).
"If you think you can intimidate us, tough luck. We will never let our beautiful country be taken away by extremist troublemakers," the party's leader, Rob Jette, wrote on X.
Oh, the irony.
Imitating the trends of the USA and UK. Ignorant people! Humanity is always migrating, itβs in our genes. Cool down, relax and take a deep breath, it will do you good.
Immigration figures are decreasing at the moment anyway. But facts are irrelevant; in the words of our sad excuse for a Prime Minister: βpeople are experiencing a migration crisisβ.
Its so stupid how these people everywhere are so shocked by a couple million migrants. They will love to learn that there will be tens of millions of climate refugees that will start coming in the next years/decades.
Judging by the average altitude above current sea level of the Netherlands, they may BE the climate refugees.
The current worst case prediction is 82cm of rise (from 2014 level) at the end of the century, which is still survivable. So probably their children https://sealevel.nasa.gov/ipcc-ar6-sea-level-projection-tool?lat=52&lon=+4&data_layer=scenario
Edit because i wrote my comment in the wrong place, but i totally agree with this.
Wait until next election, when this growing movement elects a even more right wing government. Scary.
There's those lefts again being violent. Wait this is about the rightists? Oh nevermind carry on /s since we're living in Orwellian times
Are all Dutch politicians still on X? Or is that just the right wing lunatics?
Most of them are.
