Surreal? No. Horrifying.

So Americans, you ready to put a stop to this yet?

General strike now. Shut it down. Organize, disrupt, disobey.

[–] 0ndead@infosec.pub 2 points 6 days ago

This would require the participation of every union in America. They should be the ones leading the effort.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 74 points 1 week ago

Don't worry, there will surely be people left to speak up for us when they come for us.

[–] oddlyqueer@lemmy.ml 39 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Speaking of, I am a little familiar with this group https://generalstrikeus.com/

I don't see it discussed much in fediverse channels, and I don't really know why. Curious to hear what people think of them. But they're the only group pushing for a general strike that I can think of off the top of my head.

Unemployed people be like:

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 33 points 1 week ago (20 children)

Sure, I'll just go ahead and lose my job now and deprive my family of food and shelter before the Nazis get a chance to do so.

I'm all for calling out Nazi bullshit, but blanket statements like this help absolutely nobody.

I think its called game theory? Or maybe prisoner dilema. We are afraid that enough of the country is in support of the nazi regime that the strikers will lose their jobs

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 week ago (6 children)

It's what everyone is conditioned to think and believe

In reality, if they fight they might lose their jobs ...

.... if they wait to see what else happens, they'll probably lose their jobs anyway

You're damned if you do and damned if you don't ... if you do nothing, there is more of a chance of losing everything but if you fight back or at least protest peacefully and disrupt and disobey, there is enough of a chance that you and everyone else will have much more to gain.

This is absolutely insane and highly illegal. The government cannot just kick down a whole apartment building full of doors, enter homes, and arrest people at random without a warrant or exigent circumstances. The law is quite settled on this.

[–] Aljernon@lemmy.today 2 points 6 days ago

It is insane and highly illegal but following the law is not important to Trump, his regime, or his followers. MAGA doesn't care when laws they break as long as they get to be bigots

[–] Zedd_Prophecy@lemmy.world 82 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The "law" is being ignored as it was in pre- Nazi Germany when the brown shirts started arresting and beating and intimidating people. There is no law currently.

See thats the fun part is ICE generates their own warrants without any attorneys or judges involved.

They are literally Gestapo.

And y'all think violence isnt the answer? That is literally all their monkey brains can comprehend

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 32 points 1 week ago

To these cunts a lack of retaliation is seen as assent.

I hate the fact that the international community is just sitting by because it's an internal affair and only speaking up about trade issues, etc... That's what gave Nazi Germany carte blanche to do it's thing leading up to 39.

Every sane country on earth needs to be embargoing the fuck out of the U.S., not just for their own sake, but for the sake of forcing the American political establishment to deal with their own fascist problem or become a paraiah on the world stage.

[–] ThirdConsul@lemmy.ml 8 points 6 days ago

International community is used to USA being the empire of evil. We're interested if USians experience it themselves, will they change for the better or civil war splint USA?

Those list USA being evil:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_war_crimes

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_atrocity_crimes

Those list USA spreading evil

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_involvement_in_regime_change

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_intelligence_operations_abroad

I think its missing stuff like Operation Gladio and such, but I don't want to overwhelm you with links.

And that only is about US government direct crimes, it doesn't even touch what USA corporations do outside USA.

Wtf is going on? This is like Israel war in our own highly populated cities

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 46 points 1 week ago

That's because both Israel and the USA are run by fascists.

I'm thinking ICE was not given all that funding for nothing. They were probably already over-funded even before this year, and now they have multiples of what they had before.

Ghouls like Stephen Miller want to see that money spent on inflicting pain on others...

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

they just needed enough bodies, just incase people werent into targeting citizens.

[–] ryrybang@lemmy.world 36 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If you want this to stop, the city/county/state needs to bring felony breaking and entering + kidnapping charges to every individual who approved this and carried it out. And like tomorrow or as soon as humanly possible.

The kinds of people who carry these operations out do not have empathy and will only change their behavior by force. A big list of felony counts and lawyer's fees might make them pause and reconsider.

So where are the bus loads of lawyers? Even with today’s authoritarian reality, that should be an open-shut case. Even if ICE claims they can write their own warrants, there’s no way they’re motivated enough to write one for every unit in a large building. Their laziness trumps their malice

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 33 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

They will continue to escalate, also. They need a reason to halt the midterms. If they succeed at raids without opposition they get rid of a lot of people they already don't like, and if we fight back, tRump enacts ~~Marshall~~ Martial Law. We were fucked as soon as SCOUTS said presidents were above the law...
