Always that ready excuse as their fallback. In this case they could fix it by simply exempting the sexual predator registry from this protection.

They could further exempt suspects in ongoing investigations, replacing the protection once the individual is cleared as a suspect. This latter would require a bit more writing, but it could be done.

Wyden should redraft and then present it again, if for no other reason than seeing what other excuses he comes up with.
