This really needed the alt-text. Could someone explain the joke?

I'm assuming the joke is the man never learned her name, so takes their kids to random gravestones
like a play on a one night stand joke about not learning the others name, but relationship somehow continued until children?
I thought it was more about husband not caring to remember about anything at all, like all the jokes about when a father can't guess the age of the child without missing by ten years, or doesn't know where the child attends school (those are not entirely jokes as I know of real examples of this)
I feel like the joke might work a lot better with the Mom bringing the kids to random dead father.
Hard to not know who the mother is.
I feel like this would've been a bit different joke then
Knowing German adds an addition layer to the joke

I do not get this one
The father gets children to random women's graves
Yeah. But. Why?
Because he can't remember her name
