The first season was just unexpected, it came out of nowhere and was amazing.

The second season was so much cliche, you could see the end a hundred miles out.

The third was better than the second in that you weren't sure what was happening but mostly because the old guy was going senile.

Fourth was very good at setting a very dark and lonesome atmosphere. Probably the best season after the first.

There are 4 seasons? I thought only one. No sarcasm at all, I really thought that was 1 season wonder and they never got more seasons afterwards.

Completely different stories and characters per season. Completely unrelated to each other. I enjoyed them all still.

There are three more seasons and all three are utter shit.

Hard pass.

The chemistry between Harrelson and McConaughey masked a lot of the glaring ineptitude of the story telling of that first season. All the other seasons were an utter mess.

If it doesn't end with the assassination of a sitting us president for being a prominent figure in a pedophilic cabal by his strung out and thoroughly radicalized character it's just cowardice.

Are so many USians just completely incapable of bringing up Trump in every single place they possibly can? Not trying to be a dick or anything it's just so tiring, especially as someone not in the US, to have to see him brought up so often when there's really no reason to so much of the time

I just don't see how coming back to the setup of the first season would be a good idea. It was a masterpiece, I love it, but where could it actually go? I feel like it's just going to be yet another of the masses of mostly badly done remakes and reboots at the moment cos the TV and Film industries are struggling with original ideas and have for a long while now

Also obviously I don't know if they'll do the same kinda vibe as the first season but I'm not sure if it would go over well these days? Like the darkness of it, sure, and the philosophical pessimism could to an extent but if they do it as it was in the first season I think it'd just come across edgelordy and a bit cringe nowadays. Especially seeing as it really didn't do female characters well at all, they were mostly just there to "get in the men's way" or want their dick. I could see it getting labeled as "the incel show"

I would hope so, because the last was so terribly written.

Edit: It seems I've struck a nerve with some people. Here are the reasons why I thought it was bad:

  • The show couldn't decide how far they would lean into the supernatural element. If you will eventually reveal there was a logical explanation for how things transpired, don't cherry pick what stuff can be explained.

  • The two main characters hardly did any "detecting"/detective work. While they're fucking around about everything else but the case, the deputy(?) was the only one actually trying to figure out what happened. Yes, previous seasons' main characters all had their own personal arcs, but at least they actually worked on the case.

Don't get me wrong, I love the setting and initial mystery. Ep 1 was well done. But as the season went on, I found myself asking why nothing is happening, and then they suddenly conclude. The also wasted a Jodi Foster performance.

eh i thought it was pretty good.

I LOVED the 4th one, as much as I loved the first. The environment and setting and culture was such a part of the story at first, then a distraction at the end, like a stage magician and misdirection.

Yes, there are a few themes way-overplayed in this season, but for the most part it was a solid production. Kali Reis was tremendous.

I definitely didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as the first, but I agree that the setting was amazing. Particularly for the supernatural horror angle they went with. A lot of people also hate the second season, but I enjoyed the different angle in that one too. With these anthology shows you really need to learn to appreciate each season on its own merits, otherwise you inevitably end up comparing everything to "the best season" (whatever that was) and struggle to enjoy anything else.
