also you get to be deported ! what a shit show

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

That's why the high price.

[–] CptOblivius@lemmy.world 16 points 6 days ago (1 children)

We bought a few tickets. I have always wanted to go to a world cup match. We have no idea who is playing. We can't resell the tickets if the teams don't match. It is so fucking stupid. My wife got kinda tricked as she knows I always wanted to go. Fuck FIFA and USA soccer for being compliant.

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Can you explain more about not being able to resell if the teams don’t match?

[–] CptOblivius@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Presale tickets are for time and location. They are sold to a degree already. The groups are not even made. The teams haven't even qualified. The only ones that are, are US, Mexico an Canada. If you want one of those in presale, you had to buy for 4 - 8 games, high price locations. It is so stupid and greedy. You can't not by terms resell them using any service. You could theoretically resell them directly person to person, but that is not easy.

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

Understood, thank you. Looks like the jacked up the original prices to resell levels.

That’s a lot to invest for sure.

[–] Sv443@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You buy tickets to watch your favorite country play in the finals. They get booted in the semifinals. You're stuck watching two teams you dgaf about.

[–] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

And on top off that FIFA is also selling NFTs that might get you the opportunity to potentially buy a ticket.

The whole process is bordering on gambling.

Your are gambling buying tickets for a match between two teams that might not play, and gambling buying NFTs to be chosen to be put in a draw to buy tickets.

I am so done with these enormous events. Money fucks up everything. FIFA, IOC, Formula 1, (any other sufficiently large international sports organization, tbh), Eurovision, they all suck. Corrupt leadership in the pockets of the worst states: Russia, Qatar, China, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Trump's regime, France 😉

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

agreed(even if i live in Qatar)

[–] fubarx@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

Don't forget the Ticketmaster fee.

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

WTF. This is such a huge waste of money. I don't know how people spend this much money to watch OTHER PEOPLE play a sport. A couple hundred at most.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 days ago

This makes me want to go watch the 2029 Island Games on IoM just out of spite

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 6 days ago (2 children)

As a non sports fan the relative prices between matches make very little sense to me.

The opening match being more-or-less tied for second-most-expensive is just silly. Isn't it just a group match? Does it really matter that much?

And the third-place match being cheaper than the quarter-finals? Going to see who'll finish the absolute best except for two teams doesn't matter? If my team was in the third-place match I'd want desperately for them to finish on a high!

I guess it's just another Sports Thing™.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 6 points 6 days ago

For the opening match, you get to watch the opening ceremony as well, so there's that

[–] solarvector@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 days ago

Opening match you know you get to watch your own team play.

Is that standard uniform ticketmaster prices? What are typical NFL regular, playoff, and superbowl prices?

from gemini

NFL Ticket prices
Season/Round Price Range Notes
Regular Season $50 - $500+ Upper-level seats can start around $50-$100, while premium lower-level and club seats can cost $200-$500+. The average NFL ticket price in 2023 was $377, a jump from $235 in 2022. Team popularity and opponent rivalry significantly influence pricing. According to vocal.media, the average cost of NFL season tickets in 2024 ranged between $600 and $3,000 per seat.
Wild Card Round Starting around $145 Prices can fluctuate, with some games seeing higher averages.
Divisional Round Starting around $400 Some games have averaged around $993.
Conference Championships Starting around $800 Expect to pay at least $800 for the most affordable tickets.
Super Bowl Starting around $2,000 - $3,000 Seats can exceed $1,800, especially in high-demand markets. The average price for Super Bowl 2025 tickets was reported at $8,076 by StubHub, down 14% from 2024. Previous Super Bowls have seen average prices like $12,082 (2024) and $8,907 (2023). Prices on the secondary market are typically higher than face value.

I don't expect a lot of tourism demand to come to US, especially with ICE announcing any excuse to raid the superbowl of all events. World cup is more popular with immigrants and tourists than NFL, and "NFL demographic" tends to have low interest in soccer. MLS (pro soccer in US) is 6x lower ticket prices than NFL.

Stupid event is coming to my area. Our traffic already sucks, fuck the hell off.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (3 children)

I am curious how badly it will go tbh, other countries that host it usually have reasonably good public transport options. At least good enough for getting people out of a stadium.

[–] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Considering my past experiences leaving NFL stadiums after a game, not well.

You can be stuck in the parking lot (in your car) for hours after a game ends, and only move a few feet/meters.

Most stadiums are surrounded by a sea of alsphalt, and in some cases adjacent to one or two Interstates Hwys.

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 days ago

That's why you leave at half time to beat the crowd.

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 1 points 6 days ago

Cowboys play here. We have sports stadiums coming out our ass. Our transportation and roads are all fucked up....

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 1 points 6 days ago

Part of the reason why MetLife Stadium in New Jersey won the finals game is because of the superior transit to the stadium and nearby cities over AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

[–] ValarieLenin@midwest.social 3 points 6 days ago

If they are gonna charge this much for tickets they should tax it and put some of that money towards public transportation.

[–] BeefandSquints@lemmy.dbzer0.com 186 points 1 week ago (2 children)

As an American, you would have to be so fucking stupid to come here for this.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Good news, there are a lot of stupid people out there.

[–] BeefandSquints@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 days ago (2 children)
[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 4 points 6 days ago

You'd be surprised. There are also people who will go into debt just to watch some of those games

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Oh yes, it's much easier to be stupid when you're rich, because money insulates you from consequences that you might normally learn from

That's actually a really good point.

[–] AreaKode@lemmy.world 115 points 1 week ago (10 children)

At least you only need a one-way ticket. Your return flight will be at no cost to you. Although the destination is not negotiable.

That got me!!

FIFA is one of the most corrupt, rotten organisations on the planet.

Alongside the current US administration.

Not only is this a ripoff, but traveling to the United States right now from literally any foreign country is a terrible idea.

If you get picked up off the street by the secret police, there's nobody who can come to your aid at that point.

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 21 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I'm Canadian, and there's a work conference in the states in an area I really would have wanted to go to if it were a year ago.

All expenses paid by the company for a week of travel and schmoozing.

Still not going.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 5 points 6 days ago

Ditto. SKO in Vegas early next year, all paid. Staying home.

Between the ticket prices and the, ah, challenging political climate in the US, I am really curious what game attendance will be.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 47 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Packed. I sadly have no doubt.
