What does it has to do to be at least a good game for you?

More iteration on the combat would be good; Limit Breaks not being missable is my #1 request. I really did not like the combat in Remake and I was glad that they smoothed out a lot of the rough edges for me in Rebirth.

The soundtrack for Rebirth was an all-timer, too, so it'd be great if they kept that energy going.

Limit Breaks not being missable is my #1 request.

That's fine for me

I was glad that they smoothed out a lot of the rough edges for me in Rebirth.

i kind of liked it more in Remake, but sure i get the improvements on Rebirth, my problem was i played a lot with Tifa, i they made tifa a lot worse on arial enemies in Rebirth. They add the option to reach those using the skill with the team mate together, but that was just not good in my opinion

Barrett needs to hang dong.

I mean, no it won't.

Patiently waiting to test that hypothesis. I've never touched 7 in any form and plan on playing the OG and all three remakes back to back once it's fully done.

I've always wanted to test them for their battle system alone, but I just can't stomach waiting that long between releases once I'm invested.

The time police ghosts are the true evil of the game and you fight dimension splitting multiverse Sephiroth as the final boss.

I love FF7R thus far (both of them) and can't wait for the 3rd one. I hope they can stick the landing.

For me it doesn't need to have so much mini games and open fields, because that's just stetching game time, not make it a lot better. I like remake a lot more than Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 was chock full of mini games and I found their continued use of them a true love letter to the original.

[–] tamlyn@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I think even a few of them were fun and it's fine to have some of them in them. I was more annoyed by the stretch of all the task in the open fields. Having main quest, some minigame sides stuff and the side quests, without all the monster kill, reaching places stuff would be fine for my taste.

I loved it all, ate it all up. If you don't like the optional stuff in the pseudo open world, you could just not do them. But for those enjoying the gameplay, it's more content.

But i don't like not able to get some items that i want, so i critizise it. Rebirth was a good game for me, don't get me wrong, but i will not things i didn't like about it.

When i play a game i always try to over optimise my party, so sometimes i do to much stuff, if i don't want to miss stuff. It's my problem, sure but depending on the game is see it as better or worse according to the nessesarity of side content for making the party better. And for Rebirth i felt like missing something if i skip that.

Not even just party upgrades, but fun stuff from the original that gets gated by side content, too. I'm a huge fan of blue magic in general, which meant I had to do a lot of the maps to get my Enemy Skills. Even someone like me that enjoyed the open world and the side content was very, very done with it by the last two regions.

To be good? Bring back turnbased combat. So that will not happen.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

The combat is one of the best parts of the remakes!

[–] jodanlime@midwest.social 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I actually completely disagree with this. I understand the sentiment, but I think the jrpg genre needs to push past it's 30+ year old roots. There are tons of games from indies to square that are still designed as turned based, but the new FF games are working towards something else. You can turn on a setting to make it more turn like, but I don't.

Have you played Expedition 33? Would love to see more like that. Not necessarily the dark souls-esque dodge timing, but that willingness to tweak the genre

[–] jodanlime@midwest.social 1 points 5 days ago

I haven't. Thanks for the recommendation.

[–] tamlyn@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 days ago

It kind of has turn based combat with the classic mode or what that mode is called, but i have never played it. Probably a stretch to call that turn based to be honest. Sounded very weird to be played auto and you just choose comands.

I really loved Rebirth and will be taking time off work when Part 3 comes out.

I've really enjoyed the retelling the Rebirth series has done. I know people complain because they wanted a 1:1, but I think the directions they've taken are more fun and interesting.
