Nextcloud on a cheap storage VPS is the answer here. With integration in Dolphin file manager, the setup is complete.

I use nextcloud, except on a rented server with hetzner. If I need to store sensitive personal info I usually use an rclone crypt. It's been a rock solid setup for the past 10 months or so that I've had it

@tsugu rent a cheap storage VPS on Contabo or Hostnoc and install Nextcloud or Seafile on it 👍

@tsugu you are then in control of your own data

If you're stuck with Google Drive, you could use something like Cryptomator to keep your files encrypted and unscannable by Google.

Shoutout to rclone as well. Supports multiple file hosters and has an optional transparent encryption layer similar to Cryptomator. On Linux you can even mount your cloud folders using FUSE!

Thankfully I have no need for cloud at all, but I agree that Cryptomator is a really good tool.

You don't have to use their proprietary client to use their proprietary service. You can use a 3rd party client.

On my phone I use Solid Explorer as my file manager which also has cloud integration

Even vanilla Gnome has a Google Drive client baked in lol
