Man I really wanted to enjoy this movie and just struggled with it from the start. Nothing works in this thing, the “Marty McFly” esque narration is just grating. I am not sure if is the break neck speed of the story or just how obvious and trite the social commentary is, all the jokes don’t land. Subtly has never been Bong Joon Ho‘s strength but man this thing just made my eyes roll and man it was tough being stuck with the biggest looser in the known universe..

The production values are spectacular.

Not as good as other Bong Joon Ho movies. But still decent. I just didn't like the "sauce made from tails" subplot, whatever that was. And Shovelface was a delight, as always.

I didn't love it but did like it, was entertained, didn't feel like I wasted my time watching it.

Yep. This.

I particularly liked Mark Ruffalo's ridiculous and horrible character.

That’s cool, I made it just over an hour into the movie and quit. I found it to be a total waste of time.

Read the book, it's 1000x better. The movie isn't very good, which is sad since I was looking forward to it.

The book sequel, while quite different IIRC, was also pretty enjoyable.

It is called Mickey7, I am pulling the audio book down now.

Agree, the book is great.

It definitely ran much longer than it should have. An uncommon miss from Bong Joon Ho for sure.

He defanged the actual meaningful themes so hard in favor of "Trump bad" I was left wondering if he thought the parasites in Parasite were poor people.

There has to have been something else going on. Maybe he just thought Americans were too dumb to understand subtlety on even Mickey 7's level?

On the other hand, I do think the Creepers worked better as individuals instead of a hive mind.

The Creepers are a gestalt intellegence, not a hive mind.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 1 points 16 hours ago

Gestalts are generally considered a kind of hive mind as far as I understand these vaguely defined terms but if you have a credible professional source that has the general consensus lay it on me.

I think you're probably right about the specific kind of group mind they've got going on.

Yeah, I hated it personally. I was very intrigued when I saw the trailer but as you said, nothing about it worked.

I recently found this in a charity shop for £2, snapped it up straight way. Although I haven't got around to watching it yet.

Burn it. It'll last longer and you'll get more out of it.

Hehe

Looser in a weird way works for that character though..

True. As in, on-the-loose like a puppy in a doofus suit.
