The DecapiCone:

Make injections and decapitation quicker and easier with Braintree Scientific's DecapiCones. Tapered plastic film tubes provide quick and easy restraint of rats, mice, and other small animals. I.P. injections can be made directly through the film! DecapiCones restrain post-decapitation kicking and prevent personal contact with feces or urine. A unique dispenser holds DecapiCones open and ready for use. Simply hold the DecapiCone in one hand and introduce the animal with the other. Animals enter readily, heading for the breathing hole at the small end. Roll and squeeze the large end closed. They may be used repeatedly for injections and simply discarded when soiled. For decapitation, hold at the rear and insert the small end into the decapitator.

Hilarious.

Ornithologists do something similar when they have to handle a small bird in the field or in a lab: the ice cream cone grip

“Shayla Cochran: Picture from my Ornithology class showing the difference in size between a Cooper's Hawk and a Sharp-shinned Hawk. They don't look thrilled to be held like ice cream cones, but it's their own damn fault for being ice cream cone-shaped.” A photo of two hawks, both small enough to be held with a single hand restraining the lower part of their folded wings and their legs to gently immobilize them. This grip results in the majority of their body sticking up like a goofy bird-shaped ice cream cone. The hawks look almost identical in coloration, but have noticeably different sizes.

my conure loves ice cream cone hold. he will try to pull my hand until I do it

Do you think he might like the warmth? Parrot feet don't have the feather insulation owl feet have, and I believe their circulation actually restricts to barely keep feet above freezing and save most warmth for their torso. Sounds uncomfortable.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

It could be. Some crows and ravens and keas will just walk in snow like it's dirt. I've seen chickens just going about normally in the snow too, but most parrots other than the kea probably can't handle it.

Who knew that even birds could be fans of bondage

[–] confluence@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Into the cone you go

Tell me you have never had a pet bird without telling me you have never had a pet bird. If any animal were to ever be into bdsm, it's going to be birds.

Aw, actually I did have pet cockatiels as a teen. (Sadly, not for long - my parents didn’t know how dangerous Teflon was, and my babies paid the price.)

They didn’t care to be held like this, but boy did they love face scratchies.

Don't rodents, and infact most Gilres, really enjoy being in tight confined spaces? Like, that comforts/relaxes them?

Same reason bunnies are totally chill hanging out inside the fake bottom of a magicians hat.

I've frequented r/RATS enough to comfortably confirm this statement.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

obligatory !petrats@lemmy.world shoutout (we need more chaos potatos on lemmy)

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Wish I could have them 😩but thanks to my ADHD, I'm super forgetful, and I'd absolutely hate myself if in a hyperfocus-depression cycle I forgot to feed my little guys.

I do have a few friends who have rats, though, so I do get some playtime. Which is awesome.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 days ago

Same, sadly

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I might be a mouse bc that looks incredibly cozy. Id prefer it more if it wasnt transparent though, having it be dark inside would be awesome.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

I kinda wanna snuggle with a capybara in a tight sleeping bag, myself.

[–] biggeoff@sh.itjust.works 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The bags are often used to administer injections or decapitate a mouse or rat in lab settings iirc

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (3 children)

And erm….why are they decapitating mice?

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 18 points 2 days ago

So they can dissect them. Can't use drugs cause that'll potentially impact the results.

[–] Bashnagdul@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Cuz they couldn't get ahead.

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Dad joke of the year

[–] Rusty@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They were the Bourgeoisie mice.

It’s funny up until you learn what those are for.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago

This is all I can see:

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 23 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Do they make human-sized ones?

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 37 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Thankfully no, all rats are small.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yes-yes. don't believe rumor-lies of ratmen.

Keep-stay off alert, yes-yes

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

My roommate and I tried to breed giant rats in college. We were aiming for something cat sized. Anyway, they cross-bred into retardation, over population, ate their babies, and got loose. It was... a thing.

[–] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 16 points 2 days ago

yeah, that's called bondage

[–] Jayjader@jlai.lu 15 points 2 days ago

The last time I saw this meme, someone commented that these bags are made and used so that the mouse can be euthanized after an experiment. Supposedly this holds the mouse in place so that it can be "cleanly" decapitated.

[–] davidgro@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

The first sentence had me thinking this was a 'Gen-Z doesn't know PCs' thing.

It got so much better.

[–] pigup@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Would be cool if it would eat bugs and you could take it around your house and hoover up all the insects you find.

[–] Lyrl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think I saw a clip of an Australian doing that with a chicken.

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 2 points 1 day ago

Some cats will do this too
