What is the possible reason why upvotes in Kbin do not add up to the overall Reputation, but downvotes do?

@thingsiplay It's a known bug. The primary kbin developer Ernest has said that this fix is currently implemented in the kbin development environment. This means it should be rolled out to production (ie the live site) soon. See: https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/116811/PSA-every-interaction-you-make-with-various-posts-on-kbin#entry-comment-462816

Edit: And it's fixed.

gotta say, completely unrelatedly, that your avatar is amazing

[–] Prouvaire@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

@mohKohn It is very cool, isn't it? Found it somewhere on the internet many, many years ago and trot it out every so often. There are some talented avatar creators out there.

It counts boosts but not favouroites (favourites in activitypub are treated as upvotes). A change will be coming at some point to fix this.

[–] thingsiplay@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

@HidingCat This would be good. BTW I just clicked by accident my own replies boost and it counts as Reputation too. Is that a bug or unwanted feature? Can't imagine this being a design choice.

On Reddit, when you post or comment, that will automatically have 1 upvote. That is not done here so you should updoot yourself.

[–] osarusan@kbin.social 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That's one area where Reddit made the right choice. You shouldn't be able to updoot yourself, but if you can, you definitely shouldn't have to manually updoot yourself. It should either be automatic, or not possible. Voting up one's own posts feels dirty, but if you risk your post not being seen by not doing it, you kind of have to. It's a weird mechanic.

On reddit, you automatically upvote yourself. You can change it manually to downvoting yourself tho iirc.

[–] Jcb2016@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

Yea on reddit the automatic upvote that you get when you post or comment dosen't count for anything. its just an upvote that just shows there!

[–] thingsiplay@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

@1chemistdown In this reply, I didn't meant the upvote, but the boost (which is basically the share option). But the boost will add to Reputation. And I can boost myself.

So in short in Kbin currently:

  • upvote does not count as Reputation,
  • downvote count as Repuation,
  • and boost (share) count as Repuation.

It is easier in mass to upvote or downvote without spamming the system. Boost option won't be used as much. So the ratio for self regulation is lost.

Reputation is just a thing displayed on your profile, it doesn't matter.

It's just bugged and will hopefully be fixed soon.

Karma is just virtual, don't bother unless it has a functional purpose.

[–] WalrusDragonOnABike@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

But number go up is a functional purpose. :o

[–] static@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

Number go down is funny ;), NO I won't make a habit out of this.

[–] Clairvoidance@kbin.social 7 points 2 years ago

they do now mfer

@ernest this keeps coming up over and over, I don't know if a fix is being worked on but perhaps just disable reputation till a fix is ready?

[–] thingsiplay@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

@NotAPenguin It looks like its fixed?! 15 minutes ago or so Kbin was offline for a few minutes and now my Reputation seems to be calculated correctly. Jumped up from 5 to over 400. Could you confirm that? Yours shows to me over 1200.

[–] VulcanSphere@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

@NotAPenguin @thingsiplay

Vulcan can confirm that your reputation points are looking normal, with 1271 and 482 respectively.

[–] Cal@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

I just counted all my upvotes and it matches my rep now.

[–] Otome-chan@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

there's a bug where it counts boosts as upvotes and ignores upvotes when showing the total reputation score.

[–] VulcanSphere@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Looks like it's fixed now with Vulcan reputation point is 1661 right now.

[–] minnieo@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

they do now
