It takes zero effort to make the post title "2023 Hungary Grand Prix Results Discussion" not "Max Verstappen wins the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix".
It also takes zero effort to avoid this community until you've seen the race
I saw the spoiler post title at the top of the front page of my instance. So Iโll have to unsubscribe or even filter the community. Sure. But thatโs pretty annoying when we could easily just not post race results in post titles. I donโt understand why yโall get so bitter about a reasonable ask.
I wouldn't know, I'm not bitter about anything. I'm just suggesting an easy way to fix the problem.
I popped into Lemmy for a few minutes while using the facilities this morning. An F1 spoiler was the second post in my feed. How about we not post spoilers in the title. Itโs really not a big ask.
the F1 subreddit didn't have spoilers in post titles, it really isn't hard.
Damn lol, when I still looked at it they always had ambiguous titles, but then again I don't know how moderated the sub is anymore.
I used the subreddit for more than 5 years, and it always has been the same. Spoiler rules apply to other racing series, not to F1 itself.
No it has the spoilers in the sidebar. You know, that thing you see next to every post. Besides that, the F1 subreddit posts always a graphic with the race winner, the same graphic you see in the... sidebar!
Ah, I've only ever looked at it through bacon reader, which doesn't really show the sidebar.
I typically saw the posts titled things like "congrats to the winner of the Hungarian GP" so I assumed they had a rule against it.
PLEASE concider us unfortunate ones who can not watch live.
Please considering not visiting social media if you haven't seen the race, you can't make the world spin around you.
Yeah. I had to wait a few hours before I could watch the pole yesterday and I basically had to not touch my phone at all during that time. I've spoiled it for my self before, but I have no one else to blame but me
Being located in Western Canada I just won't wake up at 6am everyday on the weekend to watch sessions. I often don't watch the sessions until Saturday and Sunday evenings and I rarely ever have things spoiled for me. I have Formula 1 instances blocked on my main Lemmy account and a specific account only subbed to F1 stuff so it's really easy to manage with Lemmy. All my browsers have stupid news feeds turned off and I have the advantage of not using other social media. Onus is definitely on the person trying to avoid spoilers.
Gonna be honest I'd you're watching F1 this season it's generally not to figure out who got P1...

I also hate spoilers since I often watch the race later. Me and a few friends will take care not to chat about the race until we are all in the clear. And our simracing Discord has a no-F1-spoilers in general chat policy. However Iโm not going to ask Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, news outlets and now Lemmy to keep quiet. Itโs just common sense to stay away from potential spoiler sources until youโve watched the race. These days that pretty much means a media blackout for me! No internet, radio or TV! Worst thing for me is hopping on to a catch-up service to watch the race, and seeing the result plastered all over the front page!
I 100% agree. The times where I need to watch a race late I need to avoid all social media.
At the very least, don't post the names of the winners in the post title

I live on the west coast of the US. The race started at 6am local time. Given Iโm usually not home until midnight on a Saturday night, thereโs no way Iโm watching it live. There are millions of us in the same boat.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills seeing the takes that are being upvoted. I feel like it is basic etiquette to not put spoilers in post titles. It sucks to just avoid this instance because this community can't be fucking bothered.
As someone who always watches the race delayed:
Please DO post spoilers in the titles. We need more F1 content and discussion on Lemmy, and the way to grow the community is to have highlights and other posts with descriptive titles.
Yes, writing "race results" instead of "Verstappen wins" won't make a difference, but I want to see videos with titles like "Driver X spins out on lap 60", or "Alpine double DNFs again". Then we can all discuss the exciting/tragic/interesting parts of the race. If we don't allow posts like that until days after the race this community won't grow.
The onus is on me to avoid social media when I can't watch the race live (which is 90% of the time).
My recommendation for you is what I did for years on Reddit. Unsubscribe before the race if you know you canโt watch on time, resubscribe once youโve watched.

The post is pretty clearly about spoilers in thr TITLE of posts.
If someone clicks on a post titled "congrats to the winner of the Hungarian GP" and gets spoiled, it is their fault.
If someone is browsing their communities local and sees a race spoiler in the post title, that blows, and there should be rules against it.
Sure I see your point. I just think a post specifically about avoiding spoilers should not contain spoilers in the post, especially one that isnโt super relevant to the discussion. OP could have said โI went on this post and got the race winner spoiledโ instead of saying it was Max
What were you expecting to see here if not "spoilers" of the race posted as it went on. Whether highlights or winner, if you don't want to know you shouldn't get on.
That said, I would like to see more lively community discussion (before, during, and after the race) and saying "just don't come here" isn't very welcoming either.
I have no problems with discussing thr race, just don't spoil in post titles. That is basic internet etiquette that predates reddit even.
