They learn how to program in a more efficient way that makes better use of limited memory and CPU cycles. Which frankly is something modern programmers and game designers could very much benefit from considering how bloated and unoptimized much of modern software is, probably because they didn't need to think about whether computers can actually run it.

Funnily enough I have to hide terminal windows when updating while I'm around any of my less tech savy friends who think it's scary or creepy. I really dislike them portraying this as "hacking".
ml is a cesspool. It's best not to even bother engaging in their communities. They'll ban you for stupid shit. This needs to be made more well known to help break the network effect they have going on with some of their communities.
