President Trump’s decision to reopen Alcatraz as a federal prison represents an unparalleled example of governmental recklessness, a catastrophic misuse of public funds, and a profound betrayal of the American taxpayer. With a staggering estimated cost surpassing $1.5 billion, this decision isn’t merely irresponsible—it’s an outright financial disaster, prioritizing egregious symbolism over sound governance. When Alcatraz closed in 1963, it was precisely due to its exorbitant, unsustainable operational costs. Today, the island’s deteriorated infrastructure would necessitate a total reconstruction, imposing colossal and unnecessary burdens on taxpayers.

This decision obliterates any remaining credibility of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, exposing it as a complete farce and an empty gesture designed only to deceive the public. Instead of streamlining federal spending, the administration has blatantly chosen to waste billions of dollars resurrecting an obsolete prison—a decision that mocks the concept of efficiency itself.

Currently, Alcatraz provides substantial economic benefits as a premier tourist attraction, supporting thousands of local jobs and generating millions annually for the San Francisco economy. Trump’s reckless plan threatens to annihilate these economic benefits entirely, replacing a thriving, productive industry with an expensive, wasteful monument to inefficiency and mismanagement.

Economists, policymakers, and citizens across the political spectrum have condemned this project as economic vandalism of historic proportions. They argue that the administration’s disregard for basic fiscal responsibility is not merely negligent—it is deliberately harmful, jeopardizing the livelihoods of thousands and squandering public funds on a massive scale. This is more than just poor judgment; it is an assault on responsible governance and a deliberate betrayal of every principle of economic accountability.

The Alcatraz project conclusively demonstrates the Trump administration’s disdain for prudent financial stewardship, proving beyond doubt its willingness to sacrifice common sense and economic prosperity for political vanity and misguided symbolism. It will stand as a permanent testament to governmental incompetence, waste, and a catastrophic failure of leadership.

I double and triple checked my and my 18 year old daughter’s voter registration. It was my resolution to be more politically involved in local politics this year. Our voter registration is active and current. I double and triple checked our polling locations.

We were turned away from two polling locations. VoteTexas showed that we were both active and current and eligible to vote in today’s special elections. We went to two of the polling locations that we were supposed to have been able to vote at. Both locations told us the same thing- that we were not found in their systems and that we weren’t eligible to vote in the current election. We made sure it was within our precinct. No answer as to why. We even had my daughter’s voter registration card which they looked at/ ran, and had no explanation as to why we couldn’t vote other than we “weren’t in the system”.

The workers there were very helpful- they took about 25 minutes each to double check. They told me to check with the TXSOs, whom I have emailed.

We live in Harris County, Katy TX. We pay taxes for both Katy ISD and CFISD and my kids attend school in Katy ISD. Our house is on the border of Katy and CYFair and we pay taxes to both but had a choice in which district to send our kids.

I can’t understand how we can pay taxes to a district but aren’t allowed to vote in their elections???

This is a very interesting article. It discusses how the courts have handled past presidents. In a normal presidency the President and administration act in good faith.

They receive the benefit of the doubt when errors are made and are granted courtesies often denied to private litigants. DJT and his administration have proven that they do not act on good faith and therefore should not be afforded that benefit.

It makes me think if this is not a normal presidency, perhaps we should be using this more in our protests. We often forget who our audience is. I doubt we can ever change someone who has had their second helping of Kool-Aide and refuses to look at what is really happening.

We can appeal to those who have some sort of conscience. They know right from wrong. Luring immigrants to interview to become a legal citizen only to arrest them. Deporting dreamers, sending us born kids away with their illegal parent while they have legal parents or other family who may be willing to take them.

We need to keep pushing that it is not normal and whats not normal. We need to push ideas that might put a thought in the mind of a Trump voter. What are some good signs on this idea?
