I do agree with your points. I think it's certainly an insightful book (just not in the way Orwell intended) but not a good book.

It's short, it's incredibly concise, it doesn't use needless academicisms, and it's surprisingly very funny. It's probably the best value-to-volume ratio of any political text imo.

Panem et circenses except you're gouged for your panem and the circus is congress itself

It's short, but not punchy. It's a
hundred pages of diatribes, some misogyny, a story beat, another fifty pages raving about bureaucracy, a story beat, and 100 pages about brainwashing and how socialism fucking sucks. Then the most half-baked "how do I tie this bad essay together?" ending.

It's Atlas Shrugged for people who do take showers.

That's not true, they've also read 1984 and thought all "adult" books are gonna be this fucking dreadful and boring so they don't read anymore, they just pretend ~~idiocracy was a documentary~~ 1984 is like, so true, man

Lol imagine being so brainwashed that you don't uncritically believe when USAID funded outlets tell you North Koreans are so ~~genetically~~ intellectually inferior that they honestly believe Kim Il Sung is god, was the best sportsman ever at everything, and he's immortal now? Dude they literally make them pull trains by hand because they're so poor, I heard somebody say it!

All the hours and weeks and months and years of footage is all faked tho

Preempting the comments: Yes, your cousin who serves to get free college is a fascist too.

I sometimes use the hexbear emojis by linking them but they invariably look jarring bc mine are like four times the size lmao I know there are options in commonmark and mou to do it but I couldn't get those to work in Lemmy's markdown
