What's the point of negotiating with Trump? We had a trade deal negotiated with him that went into effect 5 years ago. Now he's doing all the shit we've seen for this whole year. 5 years is yesterday in political and economic terms. Also, you are wrong. He visited in May and October, so 2 visits in 7 months. And people all over the world have tried to make deals with Trump. Almost none of them have worked out at all, let alone well.

As for an actual war, with armies meeting in the field? I don't need to be a tactician to see that trying to go toe to toe with the country that spends more than the next 9 largest militaries in the world, which does not include Canada, is a fools errand. I also don't think our military leaders are fools. I'd be completely unsurprised to learn that they have a plan for guerilla warfare should America try to invade. In spite of their military spending, they haven't been successful against those since Vietnam, and we are uniquely positioned to bring a guerilla war into their territory.

All of your responses boil down to, "I disagree and you hurt my feelings." I wouldn't call that statement brilliant, but I guess it could be to some. If you don't want to be mistaken for a snowflake, you might want to not let yourself get too worked up when strangers on the internet disagree with you.

If typing is hard, copy this:

ad hominen

Read up on it, and you might have an idea why your responses do little to promote your opinions.

And if you want to use memes to get the point across, here's mine:

A cogent, well-reasoned response. I'm convinced!

A note to beaten housewives everywhere: don't try to leave your husband because you'll lose your financial security. 🙄

Wars can be fought on multiple fronts in different ways. We are currently in a trade war with America, started by them, as well as having them threaten and dismiss our sovereignty. This is not the act of an ally. Much like how relations with Germany are currently good, we can considering repairing the relationship with America when theis war and these acts of aggression are over.

I literally have family across America from north to south and east to west. That is no reason to put up with the hostility their nation is showing ours.

The McDonalds point is in reference to inflation, which will certainly have an impact on the cost of vehicles. And I feel like you don't grasp the concept of a luxury vehicle. By definition, it has more than the basics. This could be why my EV cost less than $20k used and a Model S costs $151k new. No ponytail, but I don't expect having one would hinder my basic math, economics, or English comprehension skills.

A conventional war between Canada and the US will be over in days, if not hours. I'm not sure America could win an unconventional (guerilla) war with Canada.

Tine to spin up some alts?

Absolutely. If we had done so with batteries and solar, imagine where we could have been. Both technologies languished for far longer than they had to.

All good. I just keep seeing this all the time about batteries, simply because most of the technological advances are slow, cumulative, aggregate, and largely invisible to consumers. Then people complain about how none of these advances ever make it to market while ignoring, for example, how many pounds old, barely capable cell phones were compared to the functionality of smartphones these days that can run for a full day on a battery a fraction of the size we had for those old behemoths, all apparently without any of those breakthroughs making it to market. I mean, look at the first cell phone in this article. I suspect some advancements occurred in batteries between then and now.

The McCains still have their list of problems, much like other large Corporations and billionaires, but they are Canadian.

The point is not about this particular article, but the general attitude of that comment, which boils down to "Why is there an article about a technological breakthrough that may never pan out in my community about technology?" I feel like these guys would have complained about Newton's quaint ideas for a new way to use mathematics. The fact this particular article is about technology that is demonstrably taking off while they complain about articles on battery tech not being implemented is pretty next level.

Just came across this video. I've never heard of him before, but he seems to focus on facts, which I always appreciate. May showed some promising results in the import/export front for Canada. Hopefully the trends continue.

Basically what the title says. Sometimes something is removed, rightly or wrongly, but its removal diminishes the comments below it. The capability is already in Lemmy and it would be nice to see if one chooses to, but I can accept that the feature could promote toxic behavior.
