Not the hero we needed, but the one I wanted.

You make a good point lol. I've made the classic blunder of not reading the sub name..

And for those wanting a simpler and more traditional application, Nicotine+ is a great introduction.

"Would have" or "would've", never "would of". Unless you have a would of gotten, in which case carry on.

I'm going to disagree on this one, I've seem far too many comments, especially from LW users, along the lines of "I can't be bothered to change websites because I'm already settled in." Most people are attached to their posts and content and consider moving instance as "losing progress". And the bigger an instance is the harder it'll be to leave if they ever pull something seriously "power trippy" that could lock off content to some people, because there will be a large mass of communities and posts on that instance.

They're an international spy, obviously.

I prefer votes being semi-anonymous. The vote counts are technically public, you just have to use software that displays them, but that added barrier is enough for most people to never check and that is how I prefer it. I feel like seeing voter names just encourages getting into pissing contests about "why did you downvote me" which I don't want to happen because: A, votes don't matter and B, if someone downvoted without commenting they probably don't want to spend half an hour arguing in comments.

It’ll be interesting to see how things play out with Lemmy instances when Reddit bans porn.

Especially as many Lemmy instances don't want to host or moderate NSFW content. I don't blame them, but I'm also doubtful pornlemmy alone could handle the load (pun intended).

Welcome to Lemmy.ca! You chose well, we've got a pretty good admin team here.

That makes sense, it's probably the same people writing both messages.

Check r/conservative and you get a fair idea.

Looking good! I don't want to think about how long it took to get all those drawers spaced and leveled properly but the effort was worth it.

The TL;DW is the proposed Trump tariffs would jack up the rates of PC components and they likely won't come down quickly.

I use the location tracking of Google Maps/Google Timeline constantly for work, and it's exceedingly helpful to know when I was at certain cities, buildings, etcetera. Of course, this means I'm basically signing my soul away to Google. But I can't really find any alternative location tracking apps, even though I would have thought there would be lots available. Are there any good alternatives out there?

The closest I found was Owntracks, but it doesn't work for me for a couple of reasons. Primarily, it doesn't tell me the places I've been, only the latitude/longitude. That isn't helpful. I want to know I was at X or Y convenience store and when my last visit was. Secondly of course, the interface was extremely lacking and I didn't like that it was split across two websites and an app. Why even have a map in the Android app if it doesn't show my location data??

Game Maker's Toolkit explains Valve's religous playtesting methodology and how it benefitted their games. I recently rewatched this, it's an interesting insight!

There is also a Star Wars X-Wing GWP for Star Wars orders over US$40. Link

This question's on my mind because my coworker today mentioned they would vote for Trump if they could (mind you this is 2023, in Canada). I don't generally have the talking points or the desire to fight about it, so I just deflected the conversation. But I often wish I was more strong-willed and could try to figure out why someone believes what they do and, if it's invalid, then convince them otherwise.

Thus, I'm curious what you all would say or what you've done in the past!

According to the uploader:

Byron, Georgia — On Friday July 15, 2022 Byron Police officers were given a look out on a SUV driving reckless on GA Hwy 42 coming into town. The caller said the vehicle was driving into the other lane almost hitting oncoming traffic. When the vehicle got to the intersection of Hwy 42 and Hwy 49 witnesses blocked the vehicle in. Byron Police officers arrived on scene and attempts were made to talk to the driver and she was uncooperative and would not talk to officers or respond to commands. Officers placed Stop Sticks under her tires to deflate the tires if she drove off. After several minutes the driver backed into a car stopped behind her and then pulled forward hitting a Byron Police officer and a Byron Police car.

The driver then backed up again and pulled forward hitting two witnesses and another Byron Police car and drove going north on Hwy 49 with one flat tire from the Stop Sticks. Officers attempted to block the car and she backed into a third Byron Police Car then drove forward hitting a Byron Police car for the second time causing serious damage to the car. The suspect continued on Hwy 49 for a short distance where Byron Officers were able to block her in and take her into custody. The driver was identified as 24-year-old Sierra Hibbert of Warner Robins, GA. She also had a small child with her that was not hurt in the incident. No officers or citizens were injured seriously in the incident. The Peach County Sheriffs assisted during the incident and is handling the investigation and criminal charges against Hibbert.

The comedic timing on some of this video is impeccable.
