Nah man, I just dont want idiotic and extreme takes to be like 30% of what I see. Someone who champions lgbtq rights while defending Russia's invasion of Ukraine, or a Vegan who nutritionally starves their pet because they think their ideals trump their cat's nutritional needs, or even a self identified Narcissist who thinks the word Narcissist is an Ablist slur are NOT opinions worth reading, but thats exactly the kind of bulshit thats uncommon at its very rarest on this site. Further, moderation keeps threads on point, and doesnt drag EVERY instance into whatever bulshit drama that is hitting lemmy this week

Tbh, my only issue with reddit is who owns it and the way in which they exploit that. As a product I'm pretty happy with it, and the thing that made it reduce in quality, losing a shitload of its moderators because reddit fucked them over, ISNT an area that Lemmy beats it in. When I started getting my foot out the door I started paying attention to how many mods an instance had when I blocked it, and the majority of Lemmy instances had like ONE active mod. Lemmy is effectively unmoderated, and I'm not a fan of that, especially with some of the population it has.

Im in the exact same page as you. Seeing a mod remove comments because people weren't capitalizing another users pronouns was the straw that broke my back the first time I yeeted Lemmy, the next time I came back to lemmy there was a whole thing about u/vegan banning people for saying that feeding a vegan diet to a carnivore pet was animal abuse. I'd LIKE lemmy to be usable if you dont have a tolerance for extremism, but I'm not holding my breath

I mean shit like moderators deleting comments because someone isnt capitalizing someone's pronouns (while otherwise respecting which pronouns the user they are referring to listed) and that thing 5 months back when the vegan instance was banning people for saying that feeding your carnivore pets a vegan diet was animal cruelty. While admittedly the pronoun one was in a more extreme leaning instance, the problem is its impossible to completely filter that shit out when you visit this site, I dont want to see shit from R/The_Donald on reddit but despite an EXTENSIVE blocklist on this site, I cant escape constantly seeing the lefts equivalent here.

Edit: Also I get the vegan thing is an old example, its a timestamp of when I last gave lemmy a try and then gave up

Edit 2: Also I strayed from my moderation point. My point was NOT that there was too much moderation here, my point was there wasnt ENOUGH. Most instances have like ONE active moderator

Unless shit has gotten better in the half year since I left, you guys still have extreme moderation issues, which means even with an extensive instance and user blocklist, you're still going to be constantly dealing with extreme takes

Bro, whats with this 4 month necro with a response that has almost nothing to do with what I said?

[–] Kedly@lemm.ee 0 points 5 months ago

Oh no, some idiot who needs to feel superior to others in order to feel better about himself called me a loser, my day is ruined!

Thank you for being polite about it. For the most part I do actually put carts away. I was mostly just commenting to say its incredibly ridiculous to get from "Person does a pretty minor in the long run but selfish thing" to "This person relies on society having rules in order to be able control themselves or be considerate to others".

Oh, yeah I 100% have ADHD

Lmao, go ahead and tell yourself whatever you need to to feel better about yourself buddy, doesnt really impact me any

Note I started this convo by saying that not putting the cart back is a dick move. So I'm not really sure how I'm being a hypocrite here? My whole point was that just because someone chooses to occasionally be selfish, does not mean they are incapable of self governing, people have different priorities, and there are FAR more impactful things I can spend my limited energy on than whether or not I put a cart back (Which I usually do btw, like I agreed at the start, its a dick move not to). That being said, arguing with people on lemmy isnt really a high impact use of my energy either xD

The fact that all of you are this bent out of shape over shopping carts is both really funny and really sad.
