I would LOVE a guide! And if you’re looking for a laypersons input you got it. Again I know how to use tech but I’m not a tech-priest type

[–] Kelp@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Thanks for pointing me in that direction. Another completely new way to bypass censorship! On the other hand this does seem much more advanced, to the point of my peanut brain struggling to completely understand it lol.

From my understanding yes. At least that’s what Google is saying.

Good afternoon all my fellow netizens. I have a question for y’all.

To preface this, I’m not the most tech savvy. I know a little about tech and I know the recommended “sailing techniques” but for more in-depth stuff I rely on those smarter than I.

So, for piracy how does a Trojan Proxy Server(like the ones anonymous-proxies offer) compare to a traditional VPN?

From my reading I know that the Trojan Proxy Server is harder to detect, and is able to be used in nations who actively target VPNs, like China. And it apparently hides behind the https so your data looks like normal web traffic (please correct me if I’m wrong or mistaken). So if correctly bound to a torrent client it should offer even greater protection and anonymity than a vpn.

Just curious for some input from tech people before I make mistakes. Especially if the US continues to go down this authoritarian road I’d like a back up in case they target vpns

So this might be a good place to ask. How is a Trojan Proxy Server suited for anonymous piracy? Is it better or worse in case this passes?

Well, for starters thanks to everyone who replied so far. I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to try and help me.

Unfortunately while waiting I was playing around with my files and I noticed that I could no longer add, move, or edit folders on my external hdd(the one with the library content for Jellyfin). While initially setting up the server I could not find my external hdd in the files section of Jellyfin despite knowing the path. I looked it up and someone said it was to do with mounting and I needed to go into disks>mount options> and uncheck "User session Defaults" and check "Mount at system startup". After doing such the path changed but I was able to get jellyfin to access the files. (Unfortunately this meant that my qbit no longer knew where said file were for seeding so I had to go through and point them to the drive....again). So i put 2 and 2 together and figured I did not have read write permission for the dive anymore. I did not know how to change such so I reverted my change in disks and now, obviously, jellyfin cant access the files but I cant change, move, and add my files again.

I also noticed while Jellyfin was actually working, On the server pc Jellyfin was extremely slow and laggy. And Many of my files were changed into random pieces of media that I did not own. I have my files separated into Eastern and Western. With further file groups in each like Anime>Scifi>Gundam>TurnA Gundam. I thought intuitive but maybe I'm the one at fault. It changed the data for Scifi into a single series called Scifi Harry with all my other files being episodes or seasons. It also did this with the entire parent file of Western, changing it into Western Line with a crazy image that I'm guessing is from the show/movie it is confusing my media with.

Overall I'm pretty frustrated and I might have to walk away from this project for a little. If anyone wants to add any info of tell me some obvious mistakes I made please do, I appreciate all the knowledge being passed around here. I'm still reading it all but I'm going to go build some Gunpla to take my mind off this for a few.

Good morning all,

I'm having an issue with my Jellyfin server and hoping that you lovely wizards can help me...again.

So I initially tried and failed to set up Jellyfin on elementaryOS(skill issue), I wasn't really invested in the OS so I just switched to Ubuntu. Things have been much easier for the get go. I now have set up Jellyfin on my ubuntu 24.04.2 and uploaded my library from my external hdd. Now I cant figure out how to connect other devices so I can watch my media on my macbook. I currently also use a PIA vpn with port forwarding on due to my qbit seeding. I feel like that is important info. I've looked up how to connect while one the same network but since I need my vpn to stay on I'm feeling a little outside my depth again. Ultimate goal is to be able to access my library on other devices mainly, mainly my macbook, while also being able to seed from Qbit safely.

I appreciate any assistance you all can offer!

Two things pop into my mind at least.

  1. Tokyo ghoul. I want a FMA brotherhood reboot. They would only need to do the second season really. (I know, very original)
  2. Votoms. I just want this in some modern graphics. I feel like a reboot of this series could gain some popularity currently. Less “real robot” series more gritty military Real Robot

I like your taste internet person! Armitage would go soooo hard in some modern graphics

Thanks so much for the kind words on top of the invaluable info you’ve provided. You are a true gentle-person and a scholar

This dude is a wizard cause that was the exact “guide” I was using. I had to look over my shoulder for a sec lol

[–] Kelp@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Well now I feel really dumb cause that is the exact guide I was using. Oh well, live and learn I guess. Thank you very much for educating me

I was so ill prepared I didn’t even know what docker was. I definitely jumped the gun on the media server lol. Eh, blessing in disguise since I’m now getting such info I guess. Thank y’all for being kind to an ignoramus

Yeah I really need to do more reading. My lack of knowledge on Linux is my main issue I think. Just jumped the gun to Linux like a month ago, played around in elementary for a bit and was like “now is the time to set up my media server”. Prob needed more time, reading, and texting but eh.

I appreciate the advice I’ve been getting here big time!

Hello, I yet again come, hat in hand, for assistance from those wiser in the ways of the Linux. I’m having a bit of an issue downloading Jellyfin on my ElementaryOS laptop. I’ve tried all the guide on the first few pages of ddg only to receive errors after entering the comman “ sudo apt-get update “. I get ERR:3 https//repo.jellyfin.org/debian circle Release 404 Not found.

If someone can point me the way I’d be most appreciative

Hello all,

I'm having some issues that probably stem from lack of education on computers, so if some kind soles out there can give me some assistance I'd very much appreciate it.

My immediate goal is to take all my torrent data from my MacBook qbittorrent (latest version) to my old laptop that I just loaded ElementaryOS on. This way I can have my files seeding at all times instead of when I have my mac up and running. I have all the actual media on a external SSD so I don't have to or want to redownload all the torrents on the Elementary pc.

I've done some basic reading but all the articles and youtube vids I see are just migrating from one windows to another windows machine. Duplicating the data in the app data and drag and dropping it. I've even seen the recommendation to have the same version of qbittorrent to make the swap easy. Now my under educated mind is confused on going from Mac to Linux since its a completely different OS and therefore a different "version" of qbit. I imagine its possible but I'm feeling out of my depth.

I'd really love if someone can point me in the right direction if they can.
