I'll go one further, I wouldn't trust any human being to make that decision.

And you get to determine who is "steadfastly evil"?

I think it's wrong to knowingly inflict suffering in others in any capacity.

When you remember that in order to even get the death penalty, you have to be such a horrible person that you’re pretty much no longer human

This is just absolutely not true. Throughout history countless innocent people have been executed not because of the facts, but because they were unable to defend themselves against the accusations. Meanwhile, many wealthy or powerful people have been guilty but never even charged with a crime. In fact, the nature of a crime has almost zero correlation with the sentence.

If you truly believe that all humans are equal then you must also believe that it is impossible for one to stand in judgment of another. I believe that killing is wrong because it is one human standing in judgement of another. Society has a duty to protect its members, but judgement and the concept of "punishment" is something that should be left to God.

Same. I have to imagine there are some devs out there who will start working on Linux ports of their apps.

I was struggling to think of a character that was presented as "flawless" and Saru is the closest I could think of. I cannot conceive of a definition of "Mary Sue" that would apply to characters that that go to prison for mutiny. If Micheal meets the definition of a "Mary Sue" then Kirk, Sisko, Riker, Scotty, Wesley and Tom Paris do too but I suspect you would disagree with those being included.

Well said, except that TMP is pure cinema and you sir are worse than Khan Singh.

Someone once told me that Discovery had a "storyline" about a character coming out as nonbinary so I asked them if they could tell me what episodes this storyline took place or provide any details from this story because all I could think of was a five second scene with Adira that is never mentioned before or after. Of course they could not provide any evidence but they remained fully convicted that it did happen... somewhere.

Mary Sue

Is this a reference to Saru? Because I would argue strongly that he does not meet the definition of the term "Mary Sue":

"exceptionally talented in an implausibly wide variety of areas, and may possess skills that are rare or nonexistent in the canon setting. [...] lacks any realistic character flaws"

Saru was gifted and possessed "rare skills" yes, but was not without character flaws. For starters he sided with Burhnam during her mutiny and subsequent imprisonment.

Yeah when someone complains that Discovery redesigned the Klingons but won't complain about TNG redesigning the Klingons then you can know that they don't actually have strong opinions about the concept of a redesign.

Finally, something substantial. I was worried this would be "Star Trek: High School Musical" but this trailer makes it clear this isn't just a Trek show for tweens and teens.

Another great night of episodes! Featuring Tuvix because people have some strong feelings!

  • TOS (8ET): This Side of Paradise
  • TNG (9ET): I, Borg
  • DS9 (10 ET): Shadows and Symbols
  • VOY (11 ET): Tuvix
  • ENT (midnight): The Breach"

Been watching DS9 Season two and have been very impressed with the quality. I remembered it being "pretty good" but in my memory it was "the season with "The Circle" trilogy, "Melora", "Rivals" and "The Maquis", episodes and story lines that never really did it for me. I think that made me forget how many really good one-off episodes were also here, to name a few:

  • "Necessary Evil"
  • "Rules of Acquisition"
  • "The Alternate"
  • "Armageddon Game"
  • "Whispers"
  • "Paradise"
  • "Shadowplay"

All bangers!

Also I love how this season ever so slowly drip-drops dominion references culminating with the season finale "The Jem Hadar"

Wink

Someone should probably jump in and explain what federation means.

I have an aging Kindle and am looking for a new eReader to both read books and articles I've saved throughout the day. I use Wallabag to save articles. I like it over Pocket because it's better for paywalls because it fetches content directly from the browser.

I am leaning Kobo because of apps like Wallabako and KoReader (not exactly what that is yet but people seem to like it).

Anyone else have a similar setup or have any advice?
