It does sound more professional than most humans

Are there reports from others about similar things?

[–] Outwit1294@lemmy.today 1 points 2 hours ago

Yeah, confidence is the problem. And they don’t accept that they don’t know something.

You are getting more surface level information from it which is probably going to be correct unless there is a major problem in training data.

I still think they are good. Isolated incidents like this are going to happen when you are doing business at such scales.

The confidence is the problem. If a human does not know the answer, they say that they don’t know. LLMs seem to not know that it is an option.

I have noticed that it is terrible when you know at least a little about the topic.

[–] Outwit1294@lemmy.today 3 points 8 hours ago

Yeah, I have realised that now. It seems to be useful because it is well spoken but it is not.

Confabulation is what it is, you are right.

Why on Earth are investors backing this? Usually money filters out useless endeavours.

There have been multiple things which have gone wrong with AI for me but these two pushed me over the brink. This is mainly about LLMs but other AI has also not been particularly helpful for me.

Case 1

I was trying to find the music video from where a screenshot was taken.

I provided o4 mini the image and asked it where it is from. It rejected it saying that it does not discuss private details. Fair enough. I told it that it is xyz artist. It then listed three of their popular music videos, neither of which was the correct answer to my question.

Then I started a new chat and described in detail what the screenshot was. It once again regurgitated similar things.

I gave up. I did a simple reverse image search and found the answer in 30 seconds.

Case 2

I wanted a way to create a spreadsheet for tracking investments which had xyz columns.

It did give me the correct columns and rows but the formulae for calculations were off. They were almost correct most of the time but almost correct is useless when working with money.

I gave up. I manually made the spreadsheet with all the required details.

Why are LLMs so wrong most of the time? Aren’t they processing high quality data from multiple sources? I just don’t understand the point of even making these softwares if all they can do is sound smart while being wrong.

They have not given me any reason to hate them which is a win in my books. Apple was my favourite but their policy of region specific features is getting annoying.

If I had to choose my favourite corporation, it would be Cloudflare. They at least do something good.

No, things should not benefit users, they should benefit the creator of the original content.

This has to be the shittiest shitpost on the Internet

I am looking for an ebook reader which can highlight text in various colors. Everything should get synced across iOS and desktop. By sync, I mean that highlights I make in a PDF on one device should be treated as an editable highlight on the other device, and not as a permanent part of the PDF. This is to be used for textbooks.

Currenty, I use Apple Books but it is very slow and I cannot sync it outside the Apple environment.

I am okay with free options, self hosted options and one time purchases. I am not so keen on subscriptions but will consider a cheap one.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

I use Apple Books app to read a PDF textbook. I highlighted a lot of stuff on around 500 pages of small font text.

I sync all my progress to iCloud. Yesterday, I turned off Wifi during reading to focus on studying.

Today, I opened the app and clicked on the book but it didn’t open. I tried troubleshooting for the whole afternoon but couldn’t get the file to open. I essentially have to reread 500 pages and highlight everything again.

Always, always back up your work.

27M. I have lost 5 BMI points, down to 30 from 35, in 5-6 months. I did simple CICO and resistance training (PPL split).

I am a bit exhausted of the caloric deficit now and want a break. I have felt like this before and taken a maintenance phase of 1 week and then continued cutting. Now that I am no longer obese, I feel less inclined to continue.

Should I recompose at my current weight or should I continue cutting? Ultimately I do want to get to at least 28 BMI or lower.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.
