Lol! 10Mbps is usually more than enough. It’s a common misconception that more speed equals less latency.

It sounds like 50 gig PON is the next logical step. We’ve deployed XGSPON, which is 10x10 Gbps shared between whatever splitter you want to use(anywhere from like 8 way to 128, we generally use 32 way splitters), and we’re testing equipment that will supposedly be supported to 100Gbps PON. Things are moving quickly!

You’re so brave. I love self-hosting everything I possibly can, but I can’t get myself to babysit email.

I just tried Thunderbird on Android recently. It was very nice. Hopefully the iOS version is excellent as well.

Apple Mail is one of the iOS apps I actually love. Since you would just be using IMAP and SMTP, you wouldn’t really be locked into anything. Maybe you’re overthinking it. I definitely tend to. Being locked into any proprietary system makes me feel claustrophobic.

Best of luck to you.

Zigbee is wonderful. Be mindful of your network layout. Ensure you have plenty of routers strewn throughout, as it’s a mesh network.

Most smart plugs are routers, which makes it easy. I’ve had great success with THIRDREALITY plugins.

The best thing I’ve done: installed a POE coordinator in the center of my home. The SLZB-06M has been a champ.

Two huge benefits of going with Zigbee over WiFi:

  1. Zigbee is offline.
  2. Adding WiFi devices adds more interference and congestion to your network, causing instability. Zigbee rides in the same spectrum, but just a sliver of it.

More ip devices on your network also increases attack surface. Keep it simple.

I have a 2015 Mazda 3 with 200,000 miles on it. I’ve spent $80 on repairs. An oil pressure sensor. It’s a fantastic vehicle.

I understand, I wasn’t very specific about the goals. The China-bad non-sense just gets out of hand. The US is investing billions to ensure we all think China is some sort of boogie man. Just normal capitalism stuff.

I believe you’re referencing Hitler to the incorrect country. China’s moving towards socialism, very slowly. The US is going straight fash at the speed of light.

Maybe China isn’t the bad guy. They have goals. Goals are good. We’re mainly into destruction and extracting capital. Wild thought, maybe we’ve never been the good guys. :o

Thanks for all the links and info. These are stressful times. Everyone needs to cut everyone a little slack. I think we’re all on the same side here.

I absolutely love Element X. Synapse has been low maintenance to self-host, as well. Win-win.

I’ve been trying SimpleX a little this week. It hasn’t been great, unfortunately. It could be an iOS issue, but notifications aren’t coming through. Maybe Android will be better.
