Is casting it into the fire really the best way of destroying it?!

The Sandman books were a massive part of my teenage years, one thing my sister and I agreed on back then and a source of endless conversation with my crush. Really gutted that I can't look forward to introducing my teenagers to them.

I use fancy zones, and also the one that finds your mouse cursor as I'm always losing it, and the always on top mode for when I don't want a teams call to vanish while I do something else

I finally found some similar examples in the forums at board game geek and they had done just as you suggest. If I can closely match the thickness of the table with the battens, I could then use some twirly catch thingies (technical term) to make sure it doesn't tip if someone leans on it.

Good idea about the waterproofing on the felt

When my board games group come over, we move my drop leaf kitchen table to the living room where there is more space, and expand it to full size, which is about 780mm x 1200mm. We get a game out and start to set up...

At that point, the two people on the short edges start to complain that they don't have enough room, their stuff overhangs the table etc etc.

3 solutions have occurred to me so far:

  1. Get new friends. Possible but takes time and there's no guarantee that new friends won't also complain
  2. Buy a new table. I've looked at UK based shops for drop leaf tables but the ones that give more space won't fit through doors
  3. Make a table topper to sit on top of the kitchen table and provide a larger surface

Number 3 is clearly the one I've brought here because although it's a grand idea I'm not sure how to go about it.

Material

It's games night, there's drinks involved. Something that doesn't mind a bit of water seems like an idea, maybe moisture resistant MDF? Not too expensive, easy to get hold of. Thickness 18mm so there's no flex?

Size

Not too big but clearly needs to be bigger than the table it's covering, probably 1000mm x 1220mm

Top

I was thinking about tacking felt to the top for a proper gaming surface, is that sensible or overkill

Fixing

The tricky bit, I don't want it to slide about on top of the table when we're playing and someone leans on it. Equally the kitchen table spends 99% of it's time being just that so I don't want to drill into it on the top. Will non-slip mat be enough or do I need clamps/hooks/bolts?

Any ideas from the hive mind gratefully received!

For anyone who has played both, how does rimworld compare with dwarf fortress?

I'm on a pixel 8 with 256 similar to your other reply. Graphene is supporting back to early pixels and has weekly updates so I don't think phone age makes a support difference, I just went with the newest reconditioned one I could afford.

I use signal, Lemmy (Thunder), NewPipe (for YouTube), Aegis auth, banking apps (but check forums on specific banks).

Losing Google Pay made me feel like a peasant for a while, I now have a case that carries cards and feel fine.

I switched from Vanadium to Iron Fox because I like the extensions, uBlock and Consent-O-Matic.

I used to enjoy the divorced birds sub over in the other place that this tweet spawned

This just started happening today so probably something I've changed in the settings but I don't know what. Whenever I take a "back" action, the phone keyboard pops up. This is true if I swipe on my phone (system default action), or press back in the top left of the screen.

I've tried toggling the swipe to go back in the settings but it doesn't seem to impact this one.

Any ideas gratefully received, it's quite annoying

Is this NSFW? It feels like this might be NSFW.

Well okay then

From a live Renault app, I'm always amazed the car companies' apps are so bad, it's not like they're short of a bob or two to spend on getting it right.

I know this community is not strongly in use but... I find the linked letter to be helpful to me when times out in the world get difficult. It's odd, because the message is quite religious and I'm staunchly agnostic.

Yet, I urge you, ask you, gentle you, to please not spend your spirit dry by bewailing these difficult times. Especially do not lose hope.

It always works for me, hopefully it might work for someone else out there.

How low on avocado do you need to be to not be allowed to say that it's guac? 3.5% will certainly do it.

I'm not 5G enabled yet so theoretically 4G+ should be my fastest connection speed. However, on O2 I find that it's effectively the same as having no connection at all, and often end up shifting down to 3G just to get some connection.

This can't be right, I feel like I've forgotten a setting or something! Has anyone managed to figure it out, or maybe first does anyone else have the same issue?

Having trouble phrasing this, so in case it's not clear I'm not looking for casual misogyny thanks

Having a debate with a friend about whether men shopping with women can be fun and I'm wondering how coloured my view of this is by me and my ex.

I'd love to hear what makes a great shopping experience for you with your friends or significant others!

I was driving round the M25 and there was an accident in front of me, I could still get round so I slowed down, put hazards on but drove past and carried on my way.

What's the actual protocol in those situations? I could see all the airbags were deployed, there's nothing I could do for the people inside and for sure getting out on a motorway is a bad idea.

But I feel like I should have done something different. Can anyone with knowledge enlighten me?

My son asked me if I would play league of legends with him, so tried it for the first time. So much going on!

Firstly, how does anyone zero in on what hero they want to play, there are so many of them! I feel like it would take a year just to play enough to decide.

Secondly, the purchase UI seems to have been designed to ensure that a new player can never understand it. I'm sure like all things it becomes clear over time but jeez, did a professional team really work on that thing?

Anyway, 2 defeats from 2 games so far, I write to you from the lobby waiting for the third!
