There were some questions lately about favorite software products. And I thought, I add mine.

I am in the process of migrating my wife’s PC to Linux. I like tinkering a bit, but am in a position where I am willing to pay money to have a good user experience and spend less time, because things „just work“. I bought Affinity Publisher recently after some testing, because it has a nice workflow to create print products like Christmas and birthday cards.

Software on my list is:

• Steam and Games capable running on Linux
• Only Office

I have been using Linux on and off from the first shipped CDs from Ubuntu. Nowadays I mainly use OS X, because my employer provides us with MacBooks I can use in private and I like the UNIX base and I do not have to tinker to get things to work.

I just set up an old Thinkpad for my kids to start their digital journey with Linux Mint and am considering switching my private stuff to a separate computer.

What I really love about OS X is the consistent usage of alt and the command keys. It basically follows the concept: „you want to do something, press Command + …“ and „you want an alternative character? Press alt + …“.

My experience is that Linux key usage was inspired by Windows at first and Windows did not have a Command key.

Would it be hard to get the same behavior as on OS X with a Linux system?

Hallo liebe Lemminge! Bisher finde ich unsere Diskussionskultur auf dieser Plattform hervorragend. Damit das so bleibt, möchte ich ein paar Gedanken teilen.

Was mir an Reddit gefiel, war die Richtschnur zu Up- und Downvotes. Upvotes sollten für alle Inhalte gegeben werden, die zur Diskussion beitragen. Für mich heißt das, dass der Beitrag nicht unbedingt meine Meinung teilen muss, ja sogar gegensätzlich sein kann! Für mich persönlich möchte ich das gerne beibehalten und andere Kommentare daran messen.

Eine weitere Werkzeug für fruchtbare Diskussionen habe ich in Karl Poppers Kommunikationsregeln gefunden:

Popper'sche Kommunikationsregeln

• Jeder Mensch hat das Recht auf die wohlwollende Auslegung seiner Worte.
• Wer andere zu verstehen sucht, dem soll niemand unterstellen, er billige schon deshalb ihr Verhalten.
• Zum Recht ausreden zu dürfen, gehört die Pflicht, sich kurz zu fassen.
• Jeder soll im Voraus sagen, unter welchen Umständen er bereit wäre, sich überzeugen zu lassen.
• Wie immer man die Worte wählt, ist nicht sehr wichtig. Es kommt darauf an, verstanden zu werden.
• Man soll niemanden beim Wort nehmen, wohl aber das ernst nehmen, was er gemeint hat.
• Es soll nie um Worte gestritten werden, sondern um die Probleme, die dahinterstehen.
• Kritik muss immer konkret sein.
• Niemand ist ernst zu nehmen, der sich gegen Kritik immunisiert hat.
• Man soll einen Unterschied machen zwischen Polemik, die das Gesagte umdeutet, und Kritik, die den anderen zu verstehen sucht.
• Kritik soll man nicht ablehnen, auch nicht nur ertragen, sondern man soll sie suchen.
• Jede Kritik ist ernst zu nehmen, selbst die in böser Absicht vorgebrachte: Denn die Entdeckung eines Fehlers kann uns nur nützlich sein.
