"In the absence of that sorely-needed action, the Office of Gun Violence Prevention along with the rest of my Administration will continue to do everything it can…”

Isn’t that basically admitting that this new department can’t do anything and just posturing?

Or am I missing something?

Edit: In retrospect, the biggest value this department might have is having it be under Republican leadership down the line. An entire department explicitly against gun violence may cause some in-fighting about reasonable measures… as opposed to the current status quo.

That is of course assuming the entire department doesn’t just get tossed and establishes itself as having some teeth.

On a related note, Nana Visitor, after DS9 ended, had some difficulties with new roles. She was unwittingly channeling Kira and ended up being repeatedly told by the director to not. She also confessed to occasionally having Kira’s nightmares.

I was dubious going into this video. I was expecting a tirade about how Picard should’ve doubled down on nostalgia from day 1 and villainizing Patrick Stewart for wanting to do something different.

Instead I got a very thoughtful analysis about fundamental mistakes made by the writers that put them in the train wreck that it became—wanting to try something new, but not committing; over thinking TNG and under thinking Picard as it’s own thing.

I also strongly agree that Picard as a space Indiana Jones series would’ve worked so much better than a washed up vineyarder. I’m honestly surprised that I never considered this until watching this video.

My limited understanding is that the studio is paying for that actor to appear in every episode, regardless of if the actor is necessary. So to get their money’s worth, they appear in throwaway scenes.

Obviously depends on the contract, and it’s just as probable that I’m talking out my bum.

I'll vote for Prodigy's Time Amok.

The premise was really creative and it was delightful seeing the cast work together while not sharing the spot light with each other. And oh Gosh… poor Rok-Tahk.

TBH, I think the Startrek Community has the right idea.

I believe Lemmy instances should treat themselves like ye olde message boards. Have a specific interest and accommodate it. So a Star Wars instance, a Marvel Instance, a DIY instance etc… They should act like message boards, but with the key advantage of linking up with the greater federation.

Things like geography aren't very conducive to finding content you're interested in.

Yeah, like how Spotify and the like are trying to take over Podcasts, which were designed to be open.
