Chaos. I grab eggs at random, without consideration for symmetry!

Why does the general attitude on Lemmy seem to lean toward more censorship and silencing of speech

Because "censorship" in this context is a weasel word. What people complaining about censorship really want, is the ability to be more openly racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic etc. What people pushing back against that want is less bigotry.

But because the bigots can't own their bigotry, they hide behind "censorship" and not having enough "free speech".

This is literally youtube saying "The president says that hating on folks is ok, and we will make more money by aligning with that". It's not them taking a stance on free speech, because they still block stuff that costs them money. They still demonetise or block things that are supportive of LGBT folk for the flimsiest of reasons, none of which they would do if censorship or free speech were their reasoning.

This has nothing to do with "censorship" and everything to do with a deliberate attempt not to increase free speech, but to shift "allowed" speech to the right

The alternatives are there. They don't have the volume of course, but they're very much born...

Laziness isn't a thing. It centralises productivity as a measure of worth, and then shames people for hitting a threshold that means they can't meet the productivity expectations of others.

I tried to love it. It's one of the most feature rich fediverse platforms out there. It has groups built in out of the box, it talks to Diaspora as well as Activitypub... But it's just... not nice to use.

I wear clipons, because I need prescription glasses, and having to swap from prescription glasses to prescription sunglasses back and forth multiple times a day is an ADHD recipe for losing an expensive pair of glasses.

I take my clipons off indoors though, but that's mostly because it's really hard to see indoors with them on :P

No thank you. The only winning move is not to play

It's a hugely disruptive technology, that is harmful to the environment, being taken up and given center stage by a host of folk who don't understand it.

Like the industrial revolution, it has the chance to change the world in a massive way, but in doing so, it's going to fuck over a lot of people, and notch up greenhouse gas output. In a decade or two, we probably won't remember what life was like without them, but lots of people are going to be out of jobs, have their income streams cut off and have no alternatives available to them whilst that happens.

And whilst all of that is going on, we're getting told that it's the best most amazing thing that we all need, and it's being stuck in to everything, including things that don't benefit from the presence of an LLM, and sometimes, where the presence of an LLM can be actively harmful

I'm one episode in and I was already wondering whether I'd bother to watch any more. Guess I won't be

5 years ago, you contacted someone you met when you were both adults, which was presumably years before that? And her parents were mad at you? I'm not sure how her parents opinion on this matters to anyone but her parents?

"trans identified individuals", with an hour old account...

Sure, you're "just asking questions"
